The Voluntary Consortium for the Protection of the Colli Euganei D.O.C. since 1972 is reference and guarantee for the production of DOC wines: it carries out activities of promotion and supervision in order that the consumer finds on his table wines that, in the name of the consortium’s brand, offer all the physical and organoleptic characteristics that only the land of the Euganean Hills can give.
There are several services that the Consortium of DOC wines makes available to its members so that the produced wines meet the requirements of the rules of production: including chemical and microbiological analysis performed by an internal laboratory, the technical and agronomic assistance with the application of new techniques in cultivation and vine pest management and the oenological advice and assistance that allows the implementation of all the new technologies for winemaking.
The Consortium has also developed, presenting a project in the frame of the Leader II program, a common bottle for the Fior d’Arancio in order to enhance the image of this native vine. On 1st April 2011 the Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio became D.O.C.G.
The Consortium for the Protection of Bardolino DOC was founded in 1969, just a year after the adoption of the DOC for the Bardolino wine (dated May 28th, 1968) and engaged in the promotion and enhancement of the DOC Bardolino wines and of the area of production.
After the task of supervision conferred by the Ministry in 1980, then reconfirmed with the Ministerial Decree of 9th January 2004, which provided for the control plan on the whole supply chain (grower, winemaker, bottler and distributor), the Consortium has intensified its work focused on the control of all areas planted with vines to ascertain the yields, on the survay on the maturation pace, on the response to the complaints of the grapes and wines, on the control of the phases of maturation of the wines in the cellar and the verification of compliance of the product marketed with the qualitative parameters listed in the product specification.
A strong commitment to the implementation of the control plan as a result of the Ministerial Task of 2002, in particular in order to ensure the traceability of all the Bardolino DOC wines released to the market, from the bottle to consumption dating back to the vinegrower and winemaker who produced the raw material.
In addition, an activity of the Consortium is the control on consumer markets through the taking and subsequent verification of bottles from the shelves around the world, in collaboration with Federdoc.
In addition to the control activity, the Consortium of Bardolino carry out technical activities in the phytosanitary sector, with the periodical record, since 1982, of the climatic data using meteorological huts in various localities and through the issue, in collaboration with the Regional Phytosanitary Service and the cooperative wineries of the area, of a weekly newsletter aimed to a correct pest management program, in compliance with the farmers, the grapes product and the growing environment.
The Consortium for the Protection of Bosco Eliceo DOC Wines has the duty to protect, defend and enhance the wines of Bosco Eliceo, an area located on the Po river delta, at the sea. The brackish, wet and sandy soil gives the grape its particular characteristics. Wines have a flavor reminiscent of the sea.
The Colli Bolognesi Wines Consortium was established on 2nd July 1971 on the initiative of some local producers, it has not commercial purposes, but is intended solely to defend and protect the production of DOC wines, to promote the spread of vineyards suitable for the environment, to implement action for the knowledge of the merits of the wines produced in the district and to encourage commercial exploitation.
With the Decree of the President of the Republic of 29th July 1975, the Designation of Controlled Origin of the Colli Bolognesi Wines was recognized, with the corresponding product specifications regarding four white wines: Sauvignon, Bianco, Pinot Bianco, Riesling Italico, and two red wines: Barbera, Merlot.
On 12th February 1985, always with Presidential Decree, the existing specifications were changed, including among the protected wines Pignoletto and Cabernet Sauvignon.
On 1st September 1993, with Presidential Decree, even Chardonnay was approved and included among the safeguarded wines.
On 8th November 2010, with Presidential Decree, the Colli Bolognesi Classico Pignoletto Designation of Controlled Origin recognized by decree of the Ministry of Agricultural Policies of 4th August 1997, was recognized as Colli Bolognesi Classico Pignoletto Designation of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin.
With the Ministerial Decree of 6th June 2011 the rules of production of the Colli Bolognesi wines with Designation of Controlled Origin were changed with the inclusion of the sub–area "Bologna".
The production area of the Colli Bolognesi Wines only includes municipalities in the hills: in the province of Bologna, the entire administrative territory of the Municipalities of Monteveglio, Savigno, Castello di Serravalle, Monte S. Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Marzabotto, Pianoro and partly those of Bazzano, Crespellano, Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna, San Lazzaro di Savena, Zola Predosa, Monterenzio.
In the province of Modena, part of the administrative territory of the Municipality of Savignano sul Panaro.
The Voluntary Consortium for the Protection of the Colli di Parma wines was founded by producers, single vinegrowers or associated winemakers of the Parma hill. The Consortium has the aim to develop and improve viticulture on the hills in the province of Parma, the promotion, the development, the improvement and the protection of quality and typicality of produce in full respect of tradition.
The Colli Piacentini D.O.C. Wines Consortium was founded in 1986 under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce of Piacenza, on the initiative of 19 producers, as a non–profit organization. Its role is expressed mainly in two directions: on the one hand, with the authorization of February 1992 by the Ministry of Agriculture (now Ministry of Agricultural Policies), it protects, controls and supervises the production; on the other hand, it promotes and carries out promotional activities by taking actions to raise awareness and to disseminate the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. Wines.
The Consortium carries out annual audits in associated companies, oversees the designation, the quality of the products, the use of trademarks and the respect of the agreements of self–discipline established by the Board of Directors and approved by the Shareholders’s Assembly.
It implements by virtue of a special agreement with the Chamber the activity of sampling of wines suitable for making D.O.C. wines, using chemical analysis of these wines from a laboratory approved by the Ministry and accredited SINAL, also in this case by special agreement; it carries out activities for advice on the application of the requirements laid down by the Community and national laws and, in addition, informs the members through the "Terra dei Vini" house organ. The final test, of course, is that of the retail market. The Consortium, therefore, can perform all over Italy any kind of assessment, inspection and supervision of the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. at all levels of the production chain, in full cooperation with the local offices of the Fraud Repression and N.A.S.
Currently engaged in the pursuit of better classification of the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. wines, from 1993 to 1995 the Consortium has produced important research on management, organization and prospects of the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. – which rose from just 3 D.O.C. wines in the 70s (Gutturnio, Trebbianino and Monterosso), to the 11 of the 80s (Gutturnio, Barbera, Bonarda, Trebbianino Val Trebbia, Sauvignon, Valnure, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero, Ortrugo, Monterosso Val d’Arda, Malvasia), to the current 18 (in addition to the above mentioned: Novello, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vin Santo, Vin Santo di Vigoleno, Chardonnay, Pinot sparkling white or rosé, and the various types of Gutturnio reserve, classic, superior) – revealing at the same time to be very useful to define the winegrowing vocation of certain sub areas suitable for the production of DOC wines and their organoleptic and physico–chemical differences.
The "Consorzio Tutela del Lambrusco di Modena" is an inter–professional industry association for the protection, enhancement and general care of the interest on the Designations of Origin: "Lambrusco di Sorbara", "Lambrusco Salamino di S.Croce", "Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro", Modena or Di Modena.
The essential purpose and object of the Consortium is to protect, promote and serve the interests relating to such Designations of Origin.
The new wine CMO (EC Reg. N. 1234/2007) included also the wine sector into the general norm of the European Union for the Agri–Food products of quality with designation of origin. In this framework, the Consortium for the Protection of Lambrusco di Modena stands as authority for coordinating the application of the new provisions described in the Art. 17 of the Legislative Decree n. 61/2010 and will not have to be confined only to the supervision and the legal protection of the pertaining designations but will have to expand its sphere of activity to the institutional promotion and enhancement of the designations themselves.
The Consortium for the Protection of the "Reggiano" and "Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa" DOC wines was founded with the unification that took place on 18th March 2001 by the Consortium for the protection of "Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa" DOC wines with the Consortium for the protection of the "Reggiano" DOC wine.
The Consortium for the protection of the Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa wines was founded on 26th November 1976 as the Consortium for the protection of Scandiano white wine, the consortium which, on 20th September 1996, changed its name into "Consorzio per la tutela dei vini Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa".
The Consortium for the protection of the Reggiano DOC wine was founded on 22nd July 1971 as the Consortium for the Protection of the Lambrusco Reggiano wine which, on 26th November 1996, changed its name into "Consorzio per la tutela del vino Reggiano DOC".
The Consortium for the Protection of the Reno DOC wines, which includes in its members the most important realities of the vinegrowing and winemaking systems of the provinces of Modena and Bologna, was founded in 1991 with the aim to protect and to enhance the productions that enjoy the Controlled Designation of Origin of the Reno area.
The Romagna Wines Consortium was founded in Faenza in 1962 when the most aggressive defenders of Romagna wines sat around a table and outlined the structure and tasks of a Consortium for the defense of typical wines; an organization that was formed in the October of that year to take on legally after a few weeks later the name of "Ente Tutela Vini di Romagna".
Confirming the contradictions and originality typical of the thought and character of Romagna’s people, the image of the "Passatore", a bandit and adventurer who in the mid nineteenth century run around the lands of Romagna was chosen as mark, and still today distinguishes the bottles of the wine Companies associated with the Consortium.
Since then, the Consortium has developed its activities by expanding the number of vinegrowers and the associated wineries, becoming protagonists of the winemaking increase of Romagna, which in recent years has reached levels of quality excellence.
And the quality of the wines, the balance of pricing, the promotion of the product and the territory are the most important objectives for the Board of Directors of the Consortium, supported in these activities by a technical committee and a Commission of enhancement and promotion.
After an initial and partial recognition of the value of the wines of this territory – established by the introduction of the Orcia Typical Geographical Indication (Ministerial Decree of 22.11.1995) – at the beginning of 2000 the important assignment of the Orcia Designation of Controlled Origin (Ministerial Decree of 14.02.2000) has been achieved, for the further enrichment of the oenological potential of the province of Siena. And the commitment, the initiative and tenacity of some producers pioneers has led to the creation also of the Orcia Wine Consortium.
As a free association of producers, the Consortium has the goal of protecting and promoting the image of this wine and to spread the knowledge about it in Italy and around the world, encouraging participation in the most qualified national and international events of groups of producers, but also coagulating small and large companies in view of a common strategy for the success of quality wines with Orcia Designation of Origin, working also closely in territorial synergy with the Orcia Wine Route and with the Artistic, Natural and Cultural Park of the Val d’Orcia.
Companies belonging to the Consortium for the Protection are currently 36. In terms of vinegrowing surface, the Consortium has a representativeness of about 91%. Data derive from the general census of the wine–growing area completed in March 2010: 1154.97 hectares planted in the area of the DOC result. Of these, 1059.36 hectares are payable to the members of the Consortium and 991, 98 are enrolled in the DOC, and the remainder is recognized as IGT Toscana.
Founded in the spring of 2000, the Consortium has the tasks of control and protection of Cortona DOC wines and spreads knowledge about them with effective cultural, of popularization and promotion activities.
It protects the image and prestige of the designation with continuous quality controls and undertakes cultural initiatives aimed at making know the world Cortona, its territory and its wines.
Currently, there are 22 member companies and represent almost the totality of the producers. Among them, we include trademarks born and rooted in the region, others of more recent tradition and others of international importance. Encouraging is the fact that these latter have given so much credit to the territory of Cortona to make it the seat of substantial investments.
The environmental conditions, the natural vocation of the sites and soils, the tradition and the culture of wine have led to the spread of a viticulture of extreme quality and to the production of high quality wines.
The consortium has the task is to interpret, transmit and ensure this quality.
The Consortium was founded in 1992 to protect the Morellino di Scansano Wine which can now count on 26 members companies, in addition to the approximately 150 members producers of DOC grapes that give their grapes to the Morellino di Scansano Cooperative Winery.
The goal of the Consortium is to give an address to the wine policy of the territory, to ensure quality through the specification of production and to enhance the product on the market.
By the decree of 28th December 2000, published in Gazzetta Ufficiale No.18 of 23rd January 2001, the Consortium was appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, "to perform the functions of protection, enhancement, general care of the interests relating to the above mentioned designation of origin, as well as of proposal and consultation in respect of the public administration, pursuant to the Article no.19, paragraph no.1 of the Law of 10th February 1992 No.164".
The Designation of San Gimignano Consortium was founded under the name of Consortium of Vernaccia di San Gimignano in 1972 by the will of a small group of producers of Vernaccia, aware of the utility and the need for a aggregation for a proper management of the name. An adventure of a private nature, but whose positive effects have an influence on more levels on the whole territory of the Municipality of San Gimignano.
Since the foundation, the Consortium had clearly understood the purpose for which it was founded and has pursued these goals with tenacity over the years:
Enhancement of wines and defence of their image.
Brand promotion.
Research and development of the quality of the products.
Just a careful and focused work of the Consortium that has operated, over the years, in synergy and symbiosis with master winemakers and vintners to increase the quality of the productions, has resulted in 1966 the Controlled Designation of Origin: Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Italian wine to be awarded the designation, which in 1993 became a DOCG.
Even today the main commitment of the consortium is the pursuit of the enhancement of the image and the identity of San Gimignano wines, the implementation of sales and marketing initiatives in support of diffusion in Italy and abroad of Vernaccia di San Gimignano and San Gimignano Rosso DOC, the control, monitoring and improving of the quality of production both in grapes and in wine.
