Azienda Agricola Matteucci operates in the agri–food sector in the wine field, offering a wine–making service and the sale of red, rosé and white wines with Controlled Denomination of Origin.
The company organizes and controls all stages of manufacture, production, processing and marketing, taking care of the smallest detail ineach step, in order to control the cost of production and distribution, offering in the market a product with excellent quality at competitive prices.
Hence the decision to aim for a niche market that would research and enhance products of a certain quality.
The company was founded by the will of Mr. Nicola who, after gaining an experience of thirty years in the field of viticulture, decided to market the products of his land using organic and biodynamic techniques for the production of his wines. The cultivation of the soil and the consequent production of the wine takes place today in the maximum respect of the old family traditions, handed down for four generations.
The tradition is combined with the best and most modern winemaking techniques that allow to get a product that is perfectly suited to conservation in the bottle, allowing the wine to keep intact its organoleptic properties.
The Matteucci company in 2003 joined the CCPB control system (Control Consortium organic production) of Bologna (EC regulation 834/07) and in 2008 the DEMETER of Parma, the only control institution of Biodynamic Agriculture in Italy. These commitments have materialized in the attainment of Compliance Certificates of international importance.
A doctor, Ezio Maria Nicodemi, wanted to recover and enhance a vine of his own age, 40 years, planted by his father Dario on a plot of land received by his grandfather Ezio. In 2003 the first daughter of Ezio Maria (Chiara) was born and the first wine Nerodichiara and the first raisin wine Brumauero were created. The awareness that it was the beginning of a real business brought to move with great respect and attention in a world, that of wine, which is culture before commerce. The challenge was and will be that of obtaining products of high quality from the cultivation of the Montepulciano grape variety cultived in canopy management, the classic trellis of Abruzzo on a clayey soil whose slope and sun exposure make it suitable for a production of high potential.
The county is localized in the sub–area of the hills of Teramo, on lands situated south–east at an height of 320 meters above sea level, about 20 km from the mountains of Gran Sasso and 8 km from the Adriatic Sea and 2 km from the river Tordino. The farming system in Abruzzo trellis covers 5 hectares. The 140 Ruggeri graft–holder is used. This combination allowed to obtain a higher quality result thanks to the shelter of grapes from the direct sun, with exposure to south south–east of the Vineyard, and the best exposure, the so–called expansion of the leaf system, that favors a greater accumulation of sugars.
The beginning of the enterprise was entrusted to the severe Federico Curtaz, an internationally renowned agronomist, who is leading the optimization of the management of the lands and the classic grape variety of Montepulciano. The principal wines of the county have been designed by the most appreciated Winemaker of the moment Walter de Batt: Nerodichiara is a DOC wine created with Montepulciano grapes in single–variety and Brumaureo is a raisin wine of Montepulciano in single–variety, the real regional novelty. From about 5 hectares of Vineyard, we can produce up to 40,000 bottles per year.
In the hills of Teramo, on the gentle slopes of the town of Notaresco, the Nicodemi Winery covers an area of the 38 hectares, always the best interpreter of the wines produced in this area.
The company, founded by Bruno Nicodemi in 1970, is now managed with passion by the brothers Elena and Alessandro Nicodemi, with a personal and recognizable style.
From the vineyards cared to the smallest detail, DOC and DOCG Montepulciano and Trebbiano d&rquo;Abruzzo wines, strong, fragrant and harmonious, are produced, which interpret the tradition of making wine, as a combination of factors that can not be reproduced outside of this area, a territory that has an extraordinary viticulture tradition.
In the green heart of the town of Torano Nuovo, in the Province of Teramo, on top of the lush "Torri" hill which stands between the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Gran Sasso Mountain to the south, the Strappelli Winery was founded and develops.
Nine hectares of land fully grown with vines and made fertile by the extremely mild climate, characterized by the absence of strong winds and sufficient rains in summer.
The art of wine in the Pepe Company has been handed down over time from father to son for four generations. In 1899 the founder of the family, Emidio Pepe, was already known for its excellent wine created from the fresh grapes of the Torano hills and, in 1944, his son Giuseppe already sold wine in bulk.
In 1964, Emidio Pepe, grandson of the company’s founder, with prudent foresight, understood the great qualities of "Montepulciano d’Abruzzo" and started selling it in the bottle as if it were his "black gold".
Today his daughters Daniela and Sofia Pepe continue with great passion and joy to produce great wines in accordance with the methods of winemaking started by their father 40 years ago.
In recent years, Daniela and Sofia, with the typical of Pepe tenacity and the determination of their youth, have broadened the estates and increased production in the winery, always under the watchful and protective eye of patron Emidio Pepe who defines the timing of his wine!
The realization of a life plan so much attached to their passion, is also due to his wife, Rosa, who has supported and encouraged that man full of challenges; not only in the winery, dictating the timing of the transfer of the delicate work of aged vintages, but also in the kitchen, delighting the palates of all the lucky guests passed through the Torano hills, with typical dishes of Teramo.
A company that holds in itself a soul and the personality of a family closely linked to land and tradition, where time has not changed, but only fortified, these values and virtues, in the transition from a generation to another!
The fine Farnese wines, the result of the best grapes from the Farnero Valley estate and other relevant companies in Abruzzo, complete their growth path also in the beautiful wineries of the Caldora Castle, the structure of which we have followed the recovery and restoration in order to ensure the continuity of a winemaking and history tradition that is vital for the territory of Ortona, ensuring in this way to the Farnese wines an aging suited to the prestige that wants them leader in international markets.
The Tiberio family has been devoted for tradition and passion to the wine world for several years, and overlooked the market directly in 2005. Each of its members, after direct experiences of a different kind, over the years developed the interest in creating their own business.
Therefore, after years of research, in 2000 succeeded in finding a farm that for its specific morphological exposure and altitude corresponded to the coveted requirements.
In the same year, the family acquired the aforesaid company of 31 hectares and initiated a collaborative project with one of the most prestigious Italian nurseries in order to trace, through chemical analysis, a detailed and broad picture of the composition of the soil, so as to manage in the best way its potentialities.
The cooperation with them not only included a careful selection and choice of grape varieties, clones and rootstocks, but it also initiated a collaboration work with the Institute of Agriculture and Viticulture and Oenology of the University of Bologna, to select and restore ancient vineyards of the area. After much research, in 2001, vineyards were planted. For each type of grape variety, the most suitable land lot were chosen, with the proper protocol management.
The love for this Land, the passion, the commitment, the devotion lavished in the art of winemaking by Dino Illuminati, helped by his wife Marina and their children Lorenzo, Stefano and Anna, with the technical support of the agronomist Valerio Barbieri and of the oenologists Claudio Cappellacci and Giorgio Marone, have allowed over he years a continuous and importan growth of the company under any profile, counting today a surface area of over 100 hectares, all belonging to the areas of Controguerra DOC and DOCG Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane.
The winery is equipped with very modern technologies, particularly in the winemaking department. The three caves inside, fully temperature controlled, are used to make sparkling wine (classic method), for aging in Slavonian oak barrels of 25–60 hl and barriques of 225 l, and for aging in the bottles for a variable period.
Medoro is a small village near Atri, in the beautiful hills of Teramo, traditionally suited to viticulture, which overlook the green Adriatic Sea. Here our family has been producing wine since the early seventies, but only in 1997 Villa Medoro was founded, thanks to the impetus and dynamism of Federica, who decided to bet on quality thus opening new horizons for household production. The love of an extraordinary land, the exploitation of native vines and the respect for tradition are the ingredients with which our wines are produced, genuine and authentic expression of our way of being ... people of Abruzzo.
The first news about the origins of the ancient farm date back to 1793. The beautiful hunting lodge was brought as a dowry by the noble Adelina Ruggeri De’ Capobianchi to her illustrious husband Raffaele Castorani. The fame of the celebrated surgeon, for many years a professor at Sorbonne in Paris and the inventor of the first technique of cataract surgery, invested in the estate in itself, which, since then, has been named Villa Castorani.
Subsequently, the property of the farmhouse passed to another distinguished professor, Antonio Casulli. Of Sardinian origin, Casulli was Professor of International Law at the University of Naples and later at that of Tokyo, where he conquered the personal estimate of the Emperor Hiroito. This was the most successful period for the farm arisen around the villa, with an expansion of over two hundred hectares of cultivated farmland. After the death of Casulli, in the 60s, the property was divided and a decline began: the villa was abandoned and the old traditions of vinegrowing and winemaking traditions of the past seemed to be lost.
So it was, until a few years ago, when the plots of ancient history were tied again thanks to the tenacious will of a group of friends, the current members of the Castorani company. Each member is responsible in first person for the different phases of winemaking: from loving cultivation of grapes to careful harvesting, from wine production to promotion and marketing. Combining passion for good wine with the desire to create a marketing campaign dedicated to a production of quality, the company operates in full compliance with the ancient farmers’ values that for centuries have animated these country lands, in the wake of an ancient history of devotion to the generous Abruzzo territory.
After years of passionate work, now the selection of wines by Castorani is the clear expression of an area devoted to the production of grapes of superb quality, with great passion transformed into wine through traditional techniques. Our bottles tell the hills at 350 meters above sea level in the municipality of Alanno, in the Province of Pescara, where the vineyards, nestled between the Majella National Park and the nearby Adriatic coast, enjoy excellent exposure to the sun and to the night winds, and temperature fluctuations between day and night that give grapes unique and precious features.
Today as in the past, everything revolves around the magnificent mansion that dominates the company, extending for about thirty hectares and nestled in a lush and unspoiled countryside. The vines cultivated are mainly Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, while the white grapes are Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Malvasia, Cococciola, Pecorino and Passerina varieties, and a small area is left to the cultivation of experimental varieties.
The average age of the vines is over thirty years and all the farm land is cultivated with organic farming methods, without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. In particular, vineyards are protected with biological pest control methods and are fed with natural fertilizers.
Fattoria La Valentina was founded in 1990, in the municipality of Spoltore, on the hills
near Pescara. Since 1994, after a number of changes among partners, here we came: Sabatino, Roberto and Andrea Di Properzio, to purchase the whole company. Between vineyards and winery, then our work in close contact with nature began. And so its results.
After the first years of study on the vineyards of Santa Teresa, the passion for the pursuit of quality and the desire to enhance the DOC Abruzzo took over becoming the main focus of the company.
We began to better understand our land respecting it and caring about it.
The result? Wines more healthy and true from the point of view of quality. Animated by the certainty that the real quality improvement should be done in strict compliance with the biological equilibrium, season after season, we strictly applied a philosophy
that leaves aside the rampant use of chemistry and technology.
In short, we are committed to intervene as little as possible in the processes of nature, sharing the idea that the prerequisite of the Doc is the signature of the vine on grapes. Ours is a work that allows the vine to express itself, guarantees the fertility of the earth, helps to make plants healthy so they can individually resist diseases and pests.
The wines of Fattoria La Valentina are produced by nature through the uniqueness of our terroir, which we try to respect even in the bottle. This is the secret of their originality. The microclimate, the soil tied to well–adjusted vines, return wines with strong and unique character. Wines that speak of place and crops, which grow
in the combination of many small details and thanks to the passion that we get every day. Authentic wines.
The Barba family is considered to have Neapolitan origins.
The abbot Francesco Barba, Neapolitan canonical, under the pontificate of Sixtus IV (1471–1484) had the task of collecting papal tithes.
A prominent figure in the early eighteent century was Carlo Barba. In 1750 he appeared in the ounce registry owner of a large volume of goods in S. Margherita di Atri, in the plains of Casoli and Fontanelle.
The generations that have come and gone in the years to follow have all contributed with tenacity and dedication to the development of land property.
At the end of the 50s, the Cavaliere del Lavoro Luigi Barba terminated the old sharecropping relations and began the direct management of the company first, equipped it with infrastructure and facilities in anticipation of the modern farming and paved the way to the most recent generation.
Today the Fratelli Barba farm, along with the SIAI, which has been successfully operating for 60 years in the field of production of bricks, is still the core business of the Barba family.
The Pizzolo family, from Verona, for generations have been engaged in agribusiness, where they have learned, among the first in Italy, to carry out successfully the idea of supply chain. Starting from the end of the 90s, they decided to extend the vineyards they owned and gave life to Valle Reale farming company, located in the town of Popoli and included in the National Parks of Gran Sasso and Maiella. It has all the elements that announce great qualitative potential: plenty of water, extreme temperature ranges, solid wealth of structure.
