Azienda Agricola COS was founded in 1980 by Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. Three friends who wanted to retrace what had once been the activity of their ancestors. The acronym of their surnames (Cilia/ Occhipinti/Strano) gives rise to the company’s name, still a limited partnership. In 1980 they were the youngest winemakers in Italy.
They received for rent by Giuseppe Cilia, father of Titta, the old family winery and the adjacent alberate Vineyard of over 3 hectares in the historic resort of Bastonaca. On October 5th, they harvested their first vintage that will produce 1,470 bottles.
This marked the beginning of their adventures and the radical restructuring of the region of Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
The three partners completed their studies between 1983 and 1985. Rino, however, decided to devote himself to his field of medicine and sold his shares to his sister, Giuseppina (Pinuccia). The new trio then purchased la Villa Fontane in 1991, the Moltisanti family’s property in the Fontane&ndas;Baucina district, and new vines were planted on the eight hectares.
In 1995, Pinuccia sold her shares to Titta and Giusto. The remaining two friends continued to grow the estate as they acquired new and valuable lands close by.
In their quest to interpret the unique terroir of Vittoria, the estate decided to adopt the principles of biodynamic culture. This would help them find and maintain a harmonious balance with nature, as well as craft wines that are as representative as possible of their time and place.
Fascinated by ancient cellar practices, COS decided to work with amphoras, clay jars that were used by the ancient Greeks. The first shipment came from Spain in September 2000, and thus, Pithos was born and a new COS identity was created. The Pithos cuvée is fermented and aged solely in the amphoras which allow the grapes to express themselves naturally in their evolution towards becoming wine.
Once the restoration of the Fontane building was completed in 2003, the head office was moved and the business resort, the Locanda COS, opened for COS’s friends around the world. The company continued its growth when they purchased the 20 hectares of land adjacent to la Villa Fontane in 2005 that included an extraordinary wine cellar dating back to the nineteenth century.
The two architects began an immediate renovation of the building and new winery. That year also marked the first harvest of Cerasuolo di Vittoria with the DOCG designation (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), the only region permitted to have this designation in Sicily.
2007 was the first vintage bottled in the new cellar. The old oak barrels were replaced by 150 amphoras, one of the largest collections in the world, and they began making Pithos Bianco with the local Grecanico grape.
Today, COS is synonymous with Cerasuolo di Vittoria. Their love of the region and its singular terroir produces some of the finest wines Italy has to offer.
The historic winery’s activity has its roots in a history of sharecropping in a background of stamps and notary seals, about a century and a half ago.
The vineyards, in the center of the Contrada Bastonaca, the heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, fall into that territory between Ippari and Dirillo, which since the ancient Greeks and Romans was known as Mesopotamium, place of origin of excellent red wines.
The marketing activity begins much more forward, in 1982, with the launching on national and international markets.
In a time when the Sicilian oenology was at the beginnig, the Avide winery highlighted itself by entrepreneurship, enterprise and technical knowledge established by family tradition.
The project was inspired by the lawyer Giuseppe Demostene, who was assisted by his son Giovanni, a notary, with the help of his son in law Giuseppe Calcaterra and later of his grandson,
the lawyer Giovanni Calcaterra: they, over the years, have been able to add value to a product that has always stood out for its excellence.
The growing awareness of the manufacturing know–how and the experience of an established winemaker, Giovanni Rizzo, have made possible the rise to fame, to obtain prizes and awards at national and international level.
Nowadays, the company is run by the same notary, with the aid of the young agronomist of the family Marco Calcaterra, whose task is to transform, through its professionalism, the company to achieve the best quality results and thanks to the help of the sales manager Michele Di Donato, to go the conquest of new markets, growth horizons.

The SANTA VENERE agricultural–organic–tourist company covers approximately 150 hectares in the hills of the ancient land of Cir, a small town in the province of Crotone in Calabria, of ancient origins, particularly significant for its history and culture. This area, with its rolling plains toward the sea and gentle hills, is an area considered highly valuable for the cultivation of grapes and olives. The company, crossed by the Santa Venere stream, since the seventeenth century is owned by the Scala family. There, vineyards, olive groves and citrus groves stretch in a favorable position, which together with the nature of the soil, provides an optimal climate for the cultivation, practiced since 1996, with the organic system, proving a continuous and accurate optimization of products.
The company is connected to the country house where the family lives, which also includes a inn, which is about two kilometers far from the sea, with various sporting activities connected. Moreover, the breeding of "Sella Italiana" thoroughbred horses and the rearing of Charole cattle selected in purity, a breed that is particularly prized for its meat, make od this plot of land a natural paradise.
The house, an old watchtower of the seventeenth century, built against the incursions of the Saracens, are the residence of the Scala family. In the annex of the villa, essential graceful and essential farmhouse accommodation with kitchen, bathroom, fireplace, and one or two bedrooms has been obtained. Within the complex, the family church, frescoed with paintings, stands. The sea is only two kilometers away from the farm. You can also enjoy hiking, horseback or mountain bike excursions to enjoy our enchanting and suggestive scenarios. Tennis, soccer, volleyball, swimming are held in sports and recreation centers affiliated with our company.

Our family has been dealing with agriculture since the 18th century and comes from Montecarotto, one of the Castles of Jesi, in the Marche region.
Our farm owns an area of about 400 hectares and a diversified production: corn, wheat, sugar beets, sorghum and sunflowers.
We have 21 hectares of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi vineyards in the Classic DOC zone. In addition to 5 hectares of red Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes that fall within the DOC of Rosso Piceno.
We produce about 700/800 quintals per year of Verdicchio and 300 quintals of Rosso, only with grapes from our vineyards.
We also produce about 20/25 quintals of extra virgin olive oil, only from olive trees of our property.
For two years, our company has voluntarily applied in the vineyards and in olive groves a completely organic growing technique (organic growing).
For three generations the Bonci family has been producing and selling quality wines. The farm has 50 hectares of land, of which 35 are vineyards specialized in the production of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi classic DOC and Rosso Piceno DOC. The particular microclimate, the careful selection of the grapes, many years of experience along with the most modern techniques of artisan winemaking, rank the wines of the Bonci house in a leading position in the Italian market; a company that has always wanted to improve, as evidenced by the presence of two experimental vineyards followed with care in collaboration with the Institute of Arboreal Cultivation of the University of Milan.
The La Chiusa company overlooks the bay of Portoferraio and owes its name to the wall that surrounds and encloses the 20 hectares property. Its origins date back to the eighteenth century, a period when the wall and the main premise with the winery and the lord’s chapel were built. The villa with the double staircase, instead, is of a later period. La Chiusa also hosted Napoleone Bonaparte on two occasions: the first time shortly after his arrival on the island while he was still waiting to be received with due honors in Portoferraio and then after a hunt on Mount Fabbrello. In 1815 the Plenipotentiary Ministers of the Holy Alliance, instructed to return to the Lorraine the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, stayed there.
Over the course of three centuries succeeded in the management of the company: the Senno family, which founded it in the eighteenth century, devoting it from the beginning to the winemaking activity, and the Foresi family that, purchasing it in the middle of the nineteenth century, over the course of 150 years brought it to reach the highest levels in terms of quality and prestige. Last heir of the family, Mrs. Giuliana has made herself a valid interpreter of such a great passion and dedication of her ancestors, bringing a more and more high quality products to the name of La Chiusa.
Since 2003 the property has undergone a further evolution passing from the hands of Giuliana to those of another Giuliana, Ms. Bertozzi Corradi who, with her family, producer of cartoons for cinema and television, has brought to the company an added value that surely will make her achieve, in the coming years, more and more high goals. Under the new management, restoration works which involved the wine cellar, the villa and all apartments have been carried out. Important novelties have also affected the wine industry, increasing the planted area, passed from the original 8 hectares to 13.5; in effect, new plants and Aleatico and Ansonica, the two local wines of higher quality, were added, and research of new varieties to join the typical ones continues. The training system is spurred cordon, with short pruning for better quality at the expense of an easier quantity. For the same reason, in spring, bunches are thinned out, if they are too many, and during the harvest grapes are selected. The vines are the traditional ones of the island of Elba: the white grapes of Procanico, a variety of Tuscan Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc and Ansonica; the red grapes of Sangiovese, a small–berry variety of Tuscan Sangiovese, Merlot and Aleatico. A special mention must be reserved right to two raisin wines: Aleatico and Ansonica. The first is an aromatic variety with early maturation withered on proper racks and pressed softly after about 15 days, certainly the most famous and sought after wine of Elba; the second is a wine of ancient eastern origins that have come down to us through Sicily, the island of Giglio and the Argentario coast. Still today, you can find it only in these locations. The range of wines produced, all DOC, includes Elba White, Elba Red, Elba Rosé, Aleatico and Ansonica. Another red wine is Grecale IGT, made from Merlot and Sangioveto grapes; very few bottles of single–variety Grappa of Aleatico and singl–variety Brandy of Sangiovese are produced.
Showpiece of the company is also the extra virgin olive oil that, for its high quality, with an acidity less than 0.3%, has obtained a few years ago the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication). The cultivar of the business are typical of Tuscany: Pendolino, Moraiolo, Leccino and Frantoiano. The olive trees are pruned and fertilized by hand, as happens with the collection, which on Elba is made around the end of October. After leaving mines, a significant resource of the island, the people of Elba returned to take care of viticulture planting and training beautiful vineyards overlooking the sea. Acquabona, among the most active companies of Elba, boasts the largest extension of vines and a very rich range of products. The best, this year, is the diverse and distinct Voltraio, which is inspired by the precious Bordeaux blends the coast of the Etruscans, a step ahead of the Reserve, a blend characterized by a significant proportion of Sangiovese.
Fattoria Ambra has been belonging to the Romei Rigoli family since the middle of latest century. The company is near the river Ombrone and the Villa Medici in Poggio a Caiano.
In effect, its name derives from the poem "Ambra", written in the fifteenth century by Lorenzo Il Magnifico.
The vineyards, in total 20 hectares, are located in four of the most renowned crus of the territory of Carmignano: the hill of Montalbiolo, Elzana, Santa Cristina in Pilli and Montefortini, along with the Etruscan tombs of the same name.
The Carmignano DOCG, made from the Sangiovese grapes, in the majority, Cabernet, Canaiolo and other red grapes, is bottled in the four crus.
They also produce the younger version of Carmignano, "Barco Reale" and the rosé "Vin Ruspo". Cabernet Sauvignon, which was introduced by the Medici and known as "uva francesca", has been grown in Carmignano since the eighteenth century. In Italy the name of Carmignano had been synonymous with great wines since the thirteenth century, and its reputation was so great that Cosimo III de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, in 1716 issued a notice that dictated the rules for the monitoring of the production of "Carmignano".
Thus, it was the first wine with designation of controlled origin of the world. The boundaries of the ancient designation remain identical to the current ones, making it one of the smallest Italian DOCG zones.
