Who had the opportunity to meet Roberto Conterno, grandson of Giacomo, surely remained amazed by his energy, passion and dynamism with which he expresses his deep beliefs. Roberto is not an oenologist, nor an agronomist, but his expertise and experience in the sector are great. For him, the vineyard, the land, the tradition, represent a valuable asset that must be understood, respected, loved and protected. Here, in the family business, there is no place for rotating vinificators or concentrators, and neither barriques have any hope to be placed in the winery, because here Barolo must tell the story of this land, to bring all the noble and inimitable traits of a regal grape and never understood enough like Nebbiolo. The wines that come from Serralunga d’Alba, it is known, are not easy and alluring, rather austere, indulge themselves little by little, they need a long evolution.
The Roagna family have been dealing with viticulture and winery for over a century and a half, when the style of traditional winemaking was implemented. Great–grandfather Vincenzo owned the historic winery in the center of the small village of Barbaresco and, after harvesting the grapes in the early mists or “nebbie” (hence the name “Nebbiolo”), made wine in wood casks, and so is made today. Years later, Giovanni Roagna and Maria Candida moved the company to the farmhouse I Paglieri (Paj), seeing in that hill one of the maximum expressions of the territory.

The Petrolo Estate is owned by Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust, and is managed by her son Luca Sanjust. The technician agronomist of the company is Mr. Carlo Nesterini, the wine technician of the company is Mr. Stefano Guidi, who make use of external advice, both on oenologic and agronomic issues, of Mr. Carlo Ferrini.
Production area: the property currently covers 272 hectares, of which 31 hectares of specialized vineyards, 19 hectares of olive groves and the rest arable land and forest at an altitude between 250 and 400 meters above sea level, where the terrain presents rocky stratifications of marl. The area is the one of the Arezzo hills that encircle Monti Chianti, historically known and delimited in 1716 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany as a particularly precious winemaking and olive growing area. The Petrolo Estate was part of the medieval fiefdom of "Galatrona", of which there is still the tower (Torrione (great tower) which from which the name of the wine comes), built on foundations of the Roman era. The Estate was purchased by the Bazzocchi family in the forties, and since the second half of the eighties the current owner is Lucia Sanjust Bazzocchi, who, with the help of his son Luca Sanjust, has pursued a wine production based exclusively on research criteria of extreme quality.

The Piaggia farm is located in the municipality of Poggio a Caiano, in the province of Prato, about 14 kilometers west of Florence. It includes vineyards in the area of controlled and guaranteed designation of origin of Carmignano, situated partly in the municipality of Poggio a Caiano and partly in the municipality of Carmignano.
The company was started by Mauro Vannucci, who towards the mid–70s bought land in the area of designation of origin in the Piaggia locality, convinced that thanks to the excellent exposure and clay soil, cool and dry, would obtain a great Carmignano wine.
He produced the first Piaggia Carmignano Reserve DOCG in 1991 and since then his passion for wine increased, so much to involve in this project his daughter Silvia, now owner of the company. In the early 90s about 15 hectares in one of the best areas of the designation were purchased, a kind of natural cradle a few hundred meters from the village of Carmignano, where you can enjoy a splendid view over the city of Florence. The current extension of the property is 25 hectares, 15 of which are planted with vines.
