We limit our interventions to a minimum. The land commands, not us. We believe that only pandering and respecting the natural expression of our territory, we can have great wines. Great because honest.
Vito Catania is the witness of his family’s wine and oil making tradition, developing and increasing the existing heritage of lands and introducing innovative working criteria. The company is the result of a work begun in 1996 with the valuable collaboration of Salvo Foti. Today, it boasts more or less 70 hectares of vineyards in the best territories of Eastern Sicily.
The farm was founded in 2004 by the will of Arianna Occhipinti, a young producer. The lands extend into the heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, in the scenario of Hyblaean Mountains in Contrada Fossa di Lupo and Piraino, with its vineyards and olive groves, cultivated with natural methods and with absolute respect for the character of the area. The soils are of very old matrix, where Frappato di Vittoria and Nero d’Avola are original and then better express their scents and hints of the Mediterranean sea.
The olive groves of Tonda Iblea and Nocellara del Belice cultivars, respectively, are located respectively in the hills of Chiaramonte Gulfi, at the foot of the Hyblaean Mountains, and in Castelvetrano, cradle of the oldest oil production in the Belice Valley.
In 2002, the Vivera family achieved its dream: buying a beautiful estate on Etna, in the Martinella district, on the north–east of the volcano, with the idea of building a winery, surrounded by vineyards, where its grapes become wines of excellence, unique wines.
The company is run by the Vivera family and by men and women with a pure passion for vines and wine.
It all starts in the vineyard, exclusively owned and cultivated organically. The company owns three properties in three Sicilian areas particularly suited: the estate on Etna, the estate in Corleone and the estate in Chiaramonte Gulfi.
In the winery, the characteristics and the typicality of each vineyard are enhanced by tradition, by the rigor and the creativity to create authentic wines and typical of the place.
Florio is one of the historic wineries in Sicily, was founded in 1883 by the entrepreneur Vincenzo Florio, who made build a plant for the production of Marsala wine over an area of 100,000 square meters. Today, as then, wines continue to be produced and aged in the magnificent wine cellars dug into the tuff. The cellars extend over 20,000 square meters and maintain a constant temperature throughout the year approximately 5,000,000 liters of Marsala wine in Slavonian oak casks and typical kegs.
The Salvatore Ferrandes company is a small family run farm with organic cultivation of terraced land on the island of Pantelleria, where the family, of Spanish origin, has been present for more than six hundred years. The favorable climate, the generous fertility of the volcanic soil and the homemade care of transformations allow to obtain products of the highest quality such as capers, raisin grapes and Passito di Pantelleria.
Donnafugata was founded in Sicily by the initiative of a family that has over 150 years of experience in wine of quality. Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella, with their sons Jos and Antonio carry out a business project which aims to attention to detail and puts man at the service of nature to produce wines that are more responsive to the potential of the territory. The adventure of Donnafugata begins in 1983 from the Rallo family’s historic wine cellars in Marsala and in the vineyards of Countess Entellina in the heart of western Sicily; Donnafugata arrived in 1989 on the island of Pantelleria, where it began to produce naturally sweet wines.
The wines of Donnafugata interpret Sicily and narrate with passion the sensory universe. The nature of soil, exposure, altitude, climatic conditions and variety are the main variables involved in the production of wines that express in an authentic way their belonging to unique terroirs.
After choosing the combination of vine–land, targeted viticulture «reads» with care and sensitivity the vineyard in its interaction with the environment to bring the grapes at their peak of quality. The frequent tastings of grapes in the field help to find out the perfect time of harvest for each individual vineyard.
The Donnafugata brand argues that enhancing the territory also means preserving its identity and promoting excellence. A commitment that Donnafugata leads through a number of projects in art, literature and solidarity.
The company is situated on the slopes of Etna 300 m above sea level, in an area known for high–quality productions with Typical Geographical Indication. There, wines have been produced since 1825, once used as products to be cut with the wines of northern Italy and France and in bulk quantities. Only for a few years, following the introduction in the company of suitable wine–making machines, wine has been bottled with two designations: Rosso Cosentini and Nero d’Avola. The first is obtained with native grapes of Nerello Mascalese and Nero d’Avola 20%, the second only with Nero d’Avola grapes produced exclusively in the company since 1998.
Azienda Agricola Contino was founded by the experience and expertise of the Contino family, who for years, in the name of respect for the biological pace of the land, produces DOC wines that are estimated throughout Italy. The company’s vineyard stretches on the south–east side of Etna, on the slopes of Monte Gorna; thanks to the soil composition, characterized by volcanic sands, Etna Rosso DOC is obtained, a particularly fine wine that retains all the flavour of the land it comes from.
The use of modern technologies and the continuous search for modernity, combined with the respect of a healthy craftsmanship, are the guiding principles of the Contino family, who over the years has managed to become well–renowed for its wines, getting favorable feedback both by experts and by amateurs.
The company is located in the municipalities of Biancavilla, Santa Maria di Licodia, and Valverde (Etna south territory) and extends for a total of 18 hectares, of which 6 are vineyards and 12 are olive groves with cultivars of Nocellare Etnea, Nocellare Messinese Biancolilla and Moresca, all varieties required for the DOP Etna. The company was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century, but was refounded and innovated by the will of the La Rosa brothers Giuseppe and Marioche, who were doctors, but were not able to resist the lure of the ancient traditions of their family.
The wines produced under the direction of the oenologist Giuseppe Cascio are 3 labels for a total of 10,000 bottles a year. Among the services offered by the company, in a recently restored country house, there is the opportunity to organize meetings and cultural events for a total of 60 participants, as well as to use the premise of the restaurant with traditional or revisited by our chef dishes, for a maximum of 80/100 people.
Capirossa is located on the north side of the Park of Etna, precisely in Solicchiata di Castiglione di Sicilia. A few steps from the craters and the sea, the vineyards cover 15 hectares, alloted in the districts Barbagalli, Corvo, Bonanno, Tumacsi, all about 800 meters above sea level.
Historic vines (over 50 years), and recently planted, are part of a charming and unspoiled natural environment, with the typical terraces and stone walls of lava stone, characteristic of the Etna rural architecture, where the green blends naturally with the black of the volcanic soil. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, in addition to Grillo, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, express an excellent organoleptic potential, adapting to the extraordinary climatic conditions of our territory, celebration and maximum expression of typicality.
The winemaking tradition of the Russo family begins two centuries ago and has been handed down from father to son to our days. At first, it was 1860, the Russo family devoted themselves exclusively to the cultivation of vineyards situated in the area of Solicchiata, Municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. Then, in 1955, Don Ciccio with his son Vincenzo, the current owner, decided to bottle the wine produced from the family vineyards creating a small winery. The first wine was called Solicchiata. It was 1956; the D.O.C. Etna certification was recognized in 1968, the same year in which the brand was renamed Rusvini, up to the mark of today that is Cantine Russo. Today, along with their father, there are Gina and Francesco.
Our vineyard is situated in the town of Castiglione di Sicilia in Passopisciaro locality, in Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, 700 meters above sea level, located in a very ancient extinct crater, where the Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio native vines are bred as "bush vines", supported by traditional pole chestnuts. The old part of the vineyard consists of strains that have an average age of 80 years.
We wanted to embrace the philosophy pursued in this territory of ancient farming tradition, the "bush vine", the manual cultivation, the respect of the Etna territory, the dry stone walls and the "rasole" in lava stone. The sandy–volcanic soil, the temperature excursions typical of 700 meters above sea level, a mountainous territory but in Sicily, the low yield per hectare (6,000/7,000 kg) given by pruning and cultivation with "bush vine" method, the harvest that is performed by handpicking not before the second half of October and finally, the aging in small oak barrels for 12 months.
What comes out is easy to understand: a red wine rich in essences and aromas, mineral notes; its smell is ethereal, with hints of ripe fruit, spices, hints of tobacco and vanilla, its flavour is dry, full, tannic, harmonious and persistent in taste. Ideal for red meats, game and mature cheese.
Cantine Don Saro arise in the wonderful land of Linguaglossa on the slopes of Etna. Our complete production has been created combining the centuries–old traditions handed down with the support of new technologies, that have become indispensable to be competitive in the global market. Tradition and innovation have always been our guiding spirit.
The winery is located at the top of an amphitheater entirely planted with vines and in 2007 it has been completely renovated following the new technological concepts, with stainless steel tanks and oak barrels for the aging and maturation of wines.
The barrel cellar, all in French oak and enabling the storage of 3,375 hectoliters, gives the opportunity to pamper wines expertly, so that they can express at your palate all the strong and incisive character of the nearby volcano.
In the winery there is also a wide Tasting Room, where we welcome large groups of enthusiasts, students and teachers of Onav.
Cantina del Regno is located on the slopes of Etna, in a fertile and rich in history and traditions territory; it uses the most modern winemaking and production technologies, to obtain products with high quality standards.
In addition to grapes from owned vineyards, the company carefully selects the grapes on the same territory of Etna DOC.
In addition to a production line dedicated to white, red and rosé wines in the bottle and sparkling wines of high quality, the company presents itself in the market with two other formats: the Stem format, versatile and affordable, to meet the needs of the ho.re .ca. channel, and the Bag in Box format, innovative, cheap and environmentally friendly, appreciated especially by the retail market and by consumers for its value for money and practicality.
The use of these technologies allows to work obtaining considerable advantages in terms of environmental impact.
