Azienda Agricola Boccadigabbia di Elvidio Alessandri

Boccadigabbia was one of the "hundred farms" of the Bonaparte Administration of Civitanova, a vast estate that for over a century was an important model of modern, rational agriculture; as in all the farming estates of the Administration, in the old Boccadigabbia farmhouse we can see even today an old ceramic tile bearing the name of the farming estate surmounted by the Napoleonic crest of the crowned "N".

Boccadigabbia today covers an area of almost 10 hectares, all in vineyard. It is located in the district of Castelletta di Fontespina, on the hills that rise from the Adriatic Sea to the ancient town of Civitanova Alta.

Its favorable southern exposure and the mild climate tempered by the proximity of the sea, have always proven that Boccadigabbia is particularly suited to the cultivation of wine grapes.

At the end of the sixties, when it was decided to allocate the entire estate to the intensive cultivation of the vine, grape varieties at the time recommended for the production of local everyday wines were planted. Unfortunately, this led to the loss of the older varieties, descending directly by those planted in the nineteenth century by Ing. Hallaire, a French agronomist superintendent of Napoleon III.

To remedy this loss, in 1986 a program of renovation of the vineyard was launched, with the choice to replant French vines already cultivated like Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot Noir, in an attempt, now fully achieved, to reproduce the ancient and renowned quality of the grapes of the Bonaparte Administration.

The farming company of Mr. Mario Marchetti has a long winemaking tradition, which began in the past century thanks to the ancestors of this family.

It is located on the outskirts of Ancona, in the heart of the Rosso Conero DOC district and welcomes, in one single body, a vineyard entirely exposed at noon, with grapes of Montepulciano (90%) and Sangiovese. The harvest is slightly delayed compared to the average to obtain more suitable for aging products.

The wine is made in the cellar of the company, with the realization of a happy synthesis between traditional practices, such as fermentation with long maceration, and modern technologies, such as control of fermentation temperatures, aimed at achieving the highest quality and conservability of the product.

In confirmation of the excellent results, national and international awards and recognitions went to the owner: douja d’or of Asti in 1975, gold medal at the international wine competition of Milano Expo Cts 1974, 1st prize at the 23th and 26th Mednarodni Vinski of Ljubkiana, a medal at the Italian Wine Competition of New York in 1987, and in addition to these, the pleasure to receive compliments directly by Downing Street, and to see his wines mentioned and appreciated in professional magazines, books of famous Gourmets and international guides.

The company, in recent years, offers also a Brut and a Verdicchio Classico, produced from family vineyards situated at the center of the area of ​​Verdicchio Classico dei Castelli di Jesi.
