For 25 years has been only Castellare di Castellina. 25 years of success with the rediscovery of the method (the one of Chianti in flasks) to govern wine for fresh and drinkable bottles, even icy, in summer, of Governo di Castellare, with fidelity to the native vines for an authentic Chianti Classico, where the ruby red color of Sangioveto is not humiliated by the black of Cabernet or, worse, by the wines of the South. With Chianti Classico Reserve and Vigna il Poggiale Special Reserve, the highest scores of the guides and various “tre bicchieri” awards by Gamberorosso, with international grapes vinified in single variety: Cabernet for the bottles of Coniale and Merlot for Poggio ai Merli, to take part in the world challenge of the two most widely used varieties in the world, and yet with “tre bicchieri”: le Ginestre (Chardonnay and Sauvignon in steel), Canonico (by the strong character of Chardonnay, vinified in barrique) and Spartito (Sauvignon vinified in barrique, too). Then, the Vin Santo S. Niccolò, made as God commands, without the ladle, and not too alcoholic (dry) nor too sweet, and finally, the flagship wine, the great I Sodi di S. Niccolò, exaltation of Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera (10%), twice in the Top 100 of Wine Spectator ranking, demonstrating that the Sangioveto vine can compete with all of the best vineyards in the world.
Wine has always been produced in the Castle and its owners, John and Paola Matta, devote temselves to preserve this tradition, begun centuries ago.
Many styles have been produced and range from traditional to innovative.
To obtain this, the entire terroir has been rigorously classified according to its typology and the exposure of vineyards.
All wines bear the name of their vineyard on their label.
Carpineta Fontalpino has been belonging to the Cresti family since the 60s and there are marks of the company’s winemaking tradition dating back to the beginning of the nineteenth century.
The farm is located in the heart of Tuscany, very close to the wonderful SIENA, in the historic municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the historic Montaperti area.
The territory that surrounds it is rich in history, legends and love.
It gives to those who have the luck to visit it intense emotions and unforgettable atmospheres.
We have the honor and privilege to live in it, and we try to keep landscape and traditions unchanged.
Gioia, the oenologist of the farm, deals with all the production stages, from vinification to aging, defining the most important choices and giving to the entire production his personal style.
Filippo, mainly deals with the commercial activity and marketing development.
The owned land stretches for about 80 hectares and have various cultivars.
The vineyard area extends for about 23 hectares of vineyards divided into blends of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon vines, in addition to other fine experimental vines.
The production areas of the company are Chianti Classico and Colli Senesi.
In 1997 Alberto Carnasciali and his wife Franca Buzzegoli bought a plot of land of about 18 hectares in the municipality of Magliano in Tuscany (Grosseto), in the Montiano village, with the intent to create a wine company in an area particularly suited for red wines, but not enhanced yet.
The company is placed at the edge of the Natural Park of Maremma on a hill facing south, south–west, with mainly sandy soils of limestone. Immediately after the purchase, the works on the land started, for the realization of vineyards, that are placed at an altitude that ranges from 150 m up to 260 m above sea level and cover an area of about 13 hectares, with a plant density of about 5,300 plants per hectare.
Corporate choices were based from the beginning to the creation of Morellino di Scansano, considered that the company is located in one of the most suited areas for the production of Morellino, devoting to it over 8 hectares of vineyard, while in the remaining part Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown for the creation of PGI Maremma Toscana Cupinero. The goal of the company is to provide quality products. Therefore, all the choices of the business management go towards that direction: low production, manual management of the green, thinning of bunches.
Massimo d’Alessandro and Giuseppe Calabresi had the idea to allocate a portion of the housing for the “creation of a village” of wine lovers.
Partners since 2007, they have complementary roles within the company.
Massimo d’Alessandro, designer and already a professor of Design at La Sapienza University in Rome, represents the story of the family that has led the way to quality wine in the territory of Cortona.
He founded an avant–garde gallery in Rome in the 70s, inheriting the passion for art, cultivated over the years as a collector.
Giuseppe Calabresi is the soul of the business and the finance in the company, he is still today shareholder of the Calabresi company of transport, a leader in the Lazio region in the field of road transport, and a former member of Finanziaria Ktesios, one of the few private companies active in the sector of consumer credit in Italy.
He participates with passion to the important re–launch of the company’s brand in the world of wine, and he also collects contemporary artworks.
Tenuta Valgiano is situated at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, on the slope of a hill, 10 km north–east of the fascinating town of Lucca, north of Tuscany, near Tyrrhenian Coast. The Mediterranean climate with a lot of light allows excellent polyphenolic ripening. The vineyards are treated with the most sensitive agricultural practices, including biodynamic practices, with the aim of achieving the best quality of grapes that can best express the terroir. The winemaking techniques are traditional, with minimum technological interference. The intention is to produce, in the easiest way possible, a wine that should be the expression of the place where it is made: Valgiano!
Today, as in the eleventh century, the entire village is deeply involved in wine and olive growing, as vat rooms and wineries, vinsantaia and bottling place, orch room and oil mills, although very modern, are still housed in the basement, in the halls, in the desecrated churches and in the buildings of the village, joined together by an amazing underground wine duct. Volpaia is not, therefore, just a simple theater for tourists, but the center of a complex rural activity to which everyone living in the village is directly or indirectly related.
In the heart of Chianti Classico, halfway between Florence and Siena, the small village of Panzano is located. Just below the parish church, 450 meters above sea level, there is Fattoria Le Fonti. The estate covers more than 15 hectares, of which 8 and a half are dedicated to vineyards, and the others to the cultivation of olives.
Le Fonti is a small company that produces about 40,000 bottles per year. The farm has been conducted by the Schmitt–Vitali family since 1994. The entire chain of wine production, from pruning to marketing, is followed by the family, with the help of a few experts and collaborators. The winemaking activity is followed by the oenologist Dr. Stephen Chioccioli.
Since 1994, all the vineyards were replanted with vines selected for our land and our position. The wine cellars have been completely renovated and new technologies have been introduced to produce wines of superior quality. The roots of a great wine are always to be found in the vineyard. We follow a system of sustainable agriculture to preserve a good balance in our land. The relatively small size of the company allows us to follow the company’s production with particular care: only the best grapes arrive in the winery and only the best selections are bottled and commercialized.
In the heart of Chianti, Agriturismo Monteraponi, is an ancient medieval village situated on the hill of the same name belonged to the Count Ugo Marchese and governor of Tuscany at the end of the tenth century, who donated it to the abbey he founded in Poggio Martori (High Poggibonsi).
The central structure remained almost intact, characterized by the presence of a tower with a square base. On the bridge house of the tower, archivolts, the typical windows of the twelfth century, are still visible and well–preserved. That building, for its central location and raised above the rest of the village, had to be the residence of the lord. Of the same period are the wine cellars beneath the tower surmounted by a large ceiling with a single vault, where the bottles of wine produced by the company are left to age.

Villa Cerna has a vineyard park that starting from the half of the eightees has been renowed. They are technological vineyards with high plant density per hectare made with wonderful mass and clonal selections of the company of Sangiovese, that are perfect in a context of precision and cleanliness of the landscape.
The difference in the alkaline soils of Pliocene origin of the company as well as exposure, and microclimate, affect the selection of plots in the logic of differentiation between vintage and reserve. For choice, the labels of the Villa Cerna wines do not bear the name of a single vineyard.
The evolution of the wines of Villa Cerna is dynamic, without renouncing to the past but with the aim to create a wine typical of the territory where the grape blend is a choice of ours, while remaining within the parameters of the production specification.
In the eighteenth century, under the guidance of the Tempi family, Castagnoli was one of the most famous estates in the area, as well evidenced by the compliments of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo who, in 1773, on a visit to the Chianti area, praised its enlightened management, emphasizing the excellent condition of the farms and the very good living conditions of the peasants.
At the end of the eighteenth century, with the extinction of the Tempi family, Castagnoli went to the Ricasoli family. In 1924, the Rocca di Castagnoli farm, together with the most important companies in the area, founded the Wine Consortium of Chianti Classico.
Of course, many things have changed: since 1981, when the actual owners settled, extensive renovations to the villa and the stronghold have been carried out. Modern working methods, both in the vineyards and in the winery, have been introduced. A modern winery has been created, while the wine cellars of the medieval fortress have been converted into places for aging in wood.
When he decided to buy Castello d’Albola, after what he describes as a “lightning strike”, one of the aims of Gianni Zonin was to be able to give a new life to this production area of Tuscan wines of excellence. The construction of a new winery is part of this project.
After identifying the ideal position in order to reconcile the needs of production with respect for the surrounding landscape and environment, the structure was built on a panoramic hill at a short distance from the medieval village.
Carved into the rock, the wine cellar, which follows the natural slope of the hill above the vineyards and Castello d’Albola, is distributed on two levels. One external to the north, for the vinification of grapes and for technical areas, and an underground level allocated for two thirds to the storage of wines in stainless steel vats with controlled temperature thanks to a computerized system, and one third to the fining of red wines in oak barrels.
The bottling winery is separated from the mother and totally underground. The design of this premise has provided for the implementation of a green grass and the planting of olive trees above the roof to improve the inclusion in the surrounding agricultural context.
The vertical and horizontal structures, linear and simple in their architectural rigor, have been covered in local and of Alberse pietraforte and the roofings with a structure of lamellar wood for a front 100 meters long and 40 meters deep.
The historic underground wine cellars, with impressive vaults built in the past by the Pazzi family and by the Princes Ginori Conti – who lived in the ancient village of Albola, instead – have returned to life and now host large barrels of 60 hl of valuable Slavonian oak and other barriques in French oak from the Allier region.
The ruins of the castle, hence the name of the company, bring us back to the Middle Ages. Strategically located in the hills, it was surrounded by a view of the whole Tyrrhenian coast: it was a watchtower from which the Pisans could see in time the arrival of the Saracen pirates and to avoid their terrible raids. Between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the bishop of Pisa, nephew of Pope Boniface VIII, in the name of the Roman Church, gave on lease the estate of the Gaetani Earls, who remained owners for five centuries, during which the fortified castle gave way to a more and more significant agriculture activity: hence the construction of the farm to organize the production of wheat, olives and grapes, the traditional cultivation of the area, with the realization, in the seventeenth century, of the farm and then of the winery.
At the end of the eighteenth century, that branch of the Gaetani family remained without heirs, and the Land was bought by Princes Poniatowski, who emigrated from Poland, to which the property – of great interest that was also mining, for the richness of iron, copper and other minerals found in the depths of the hilly terrain – belonged until the first World War.
