Wines are the combination of modern vinification techniques and the care and competence that only who loves and has always known these vineyards can give. The production can be defined “homemade” and is around 20 thousand bottles a year.
This allows you to follow directly and with extreme care every step of the work in the cellar, to produce wines that express the personality of mankind and the power of the earth.
The commitment and contribution of the whole family are necessary to carry out such a difficult process.
Marina and Gianni follow Francesco as parents excited by the first steps of their child and his wife Anna, despite not having chosen this passion, manages important aspects sharing “joys and sorrows”.
Many are the things to tell about this chateau in Piedmont which in 2008 celebrated its 130 years: the creation of the “bio–natural reservation” of Fontanafredda, with a significant reduction of CO2 emissions by the corporate system; the high quality of its wines: there is not the top, but the sequence of Four Clusters (Quattro Grappoli) awards is impressive. Moreover, we would like to mention also the commitment of Fontanafredda for Asti, a great sparkling wine too often mistreated. The answer is Galarej, produced with the “ancestral method”, ie employing the secondary fermentation of the natural sugars of the grapes, without additions. A processing that is new and old at the same time, between ethics and the market.
Even this year the choice of wines presented by Antonio Deltetto does not disappoint the expectations of supporters of the potential of the Roero area. The company has been operating in Canale for decades, that has always stood out interpreting in the best way the grape varieties in the area. For some years the sparkling wines complement the company’s range, offering fine bubbles. Obviously, our attention goes to the Roero Braja, but Barbera Rocca delle Marasche climbs the podium for its great pleasantness.
Giulio Cocchi Spumanti was founded by the passion of a young confectioner, when in Asti in 1889 his winery opened to the activities of liqueur and sparkling wine making. Giulio Cocchi began to produce wines with special aromas, out of which especially two recipes, Barolo Chinato and Aperitivo Americano, became famous already at the beginning of the twentieth century. For over thirty years the property has been of the Bava family of Cocconato d’Asti, who has given a new drive to the production of the company.
The winery has developed keeping its artisan feature based on skilled production of vintage sparkling wines made with Metodo Classico, Charmat sparkling wine and, obviously, Asti DOCG.
Cascina Pellegrino is a wine company rooted in the best Piedmontese traditions, founded by the Bono family and now run by son Cristiano and his partner Roberto Ghione. The Vineyards of property are spread in the municipalities of Canale, Monteu Roearo. S. Stefano Roero and Vezza d’Alba: areas that are highly suited to viticulture. The winery, recently built, completely modern, operational, is divided into three processing zones: vinification, bottling and barriques. The constant pursuit of quality and elegance makes of it a reference point within the Roero winemaking scenery.
Since its debut in the world of wine Cascina Chicco has been a landmark in the Roero area. The magnificent three grape varieties of the area: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis, have been interpreted with considerable skill and ability. The fruity expression is among the distinctive characteristics of the wines by Marco and Enrico Faccenda. Instant pleasure, in the hope that wine, especially Nebbiolo and Barbera, express in their evolution their maximum potentials. Time and, of course, vintages, have followed one another giving reflection stimuli and new guidelines. All this, keeping the company always on levels of prestige.
Borgo Maragliano farm is located 450 meters above sea level on a natural terrace in the Langhe area, in the heart of Loazzolo, an area passed through Marin, a sea wind that favors, enhancing features and scents, the ripening of grapes.
In a succession of marl and sandstone, it has about 15 hectares of vineyards of its property, and produce is vinified, bottled and packaged with advanced method and equipment.
The wines of the company are the result of a careful and meticulous work, are obtained from Moscato, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.
Undisputed symbol of the company is LOAZZOLO Vendemmia Tardiva, obtained from a selected vineyard with southern exposure and whose average yield is of 21 hl. per hectare. After a persevering work in the vineyard, followed by some years of aging in the wine cellar, it reaches the climax of its scents and expresses in its taste a sincere and open body, as the town where it is originated wants to be: Loazzolo.
Beyond the goodness of Laozzolo Solio, whose vintage will be commercialized starting from 2010, taking advantage of a longer fining period, we were impressed by the remarkable personality of Barbera, especially the Nizza type. Grapes come from a remarkable vineyard situated between Calamandrana and Nizza, lands that have always been suited to the production of great grapes. This confirms the quality of the products of this company, located in an area of the winemaking Piedmont of particular environmental impact, worth a detour to admire its stunning views.
Nebbiolo Carema Producers’ Winery was founded in 1960 by a small group of 18 farmers and developed to become the most qualified winery for the production and sale of Carema. The company is currently a cooperative made up of 78 members, almost all part–time producers, with an average age of 50/60 years. The production area of Carema is limited to the homonymous municipality, with an area of 17 hectares enrolled in the Doc Register. The recognition of D.O.C. goes back to 1967. Carema is sold also abroad, but because of its limited production and its strong features, it is still a wine particularly appreciated by skilled and experienced consumers. The vineyards located on typical terraces (topie or tupiun), supported by stone pillars on stone and lime (pilum), represent a work of art defined between romantic and gothic.
Carema is a nebbiolo that must be aged at least 3 years, 2 of which in oak or chestnut barrels. Its colour is red fading to garnet, its scent is intense, its minimum alcohol content required is of 12 degrees. The longevity of this wine is quite marked (even 20–30 years) as long as bottles are stored horizontally in dark and not too hot cellars. It should be served at room temperature (18–20°C), possibly uncorked a few hours before drinking or poured in jars. Carema is particularly suitable for roasts, game, red meats, aged cheese or as a “fireplace” wine, well suited to the end of a meal with nuts and dried fruit.

Lessona, and then Bramaterra, where, for adventure, grounds of taste and cheerful elegance have been giving us wines of shimmering velvet and lavish, for centuries.
Starting from 1974 some wines by Vietti have been dressed with original artworks created on purpose by artists and inspired by the wine of each specific vintage.
The print run matches the number of bottles produced and the first hundred are signed by artists. Each artwork is used only once, exclusively for the wine of a specific vintage. Since 1988, on the occasion of the presentation of Barolo Villero 1982, the Author label has been dedicated to the wine of this great vineyard.
Alfredo Corrado tells: «The idea was conceived around a bottle of Barolo Rocche. A winter evening a group of friends, some of which artists, and I, were tasting some bottles of Barolo. Just seeing the color of the wine in the glass, they were thrilled and said that these wines deserved to be ennobled with different from the usual dresses: what they deserved were Artists’ labels. In the euphoria of that moment we made a list of Artists, and the day after that airy idea took concrete shape».
In the land of Barolo there is a family that has always been associated with wine: the Brovia family. The company was founded in 1863 and is located in Castiglione Falletto. It has always been very careful about the importance of the terroir and has managed, with time, to select and then to buy large vineyards in the Barolo area: Rocche, Villero and Garblèt Suè in Castiglione Falletto and Ca’Mia and Brea in Serralunga d’Alba.
Thus, the philosophy of the Winery is to propose great personality Barolo wines, prodocued an vinified all in the same way, but with very specific and clean characteristics, always different among them. Barolo wines that faithfully reflect the richness of our great Langa vineyards.
After long and challenging works, the new winery in Fontane di La Morra locality have been completed, where the processing related to the 2006 harvest have been accomplished with excellent results.
Enzo Boglietti is a family run company which started to vinify grapes from the vineyards of property, more or less 2.5 hectares, in 1991, to reach gradually the 21 hectares for a total of 75,000 bottles a year.
Enzo devotes himself to the direction and the eclectic management, while his brother Gianni, who has been working with him since 1996, deals with the vineyards’ management, with the indefatigable support of their father Renato.
Ca’ Viola farm was founded in 1991 in Montelupo Albese, a small rural town located in the heart of the Langhe area, on the hills around Alba, a town that has always been considered the main center of Langhe.
In September 2001, the production winery was transferred to Dogliani, famous for having been the village where the statesman Luigi Einaudi lived and worked, and now increasingly known for the production of the excellent Dolcetto DOC that is emerging as one of the best wines ever in the varied landscape of Piedmont.
The new, prestigious seat is located in a villa of the nineteenth century, completely renovated preserving the architectural features of that period and in complete harmony with the environment.
The company owner is Giuseppe Caviola, a well known oenologist appreciated for his activity of consultant at important wineries.
Caviola, who is also responsible for the technical management of the winery, avails himself of the collaboration of his partner Maurizio Anselmo, regarding the vinegrowing activity, and is ssisted by a determined and passionate young man: Alessandro Scarrone.
The viticultural practices are implemented directly by Maurizio and Alessandro, with the aim of a continuous quality improvement, and are planned under the supervision of two agronomists of recognized reputation and expertise: Federico Curtaz and Gian Piero Romana, Beppe’s friends, who collaborate also in other vinegrowing and winemaking realities – not only in Piedmont.
To complete the company’s workforce, Caviola’s wife, Simonetta, who deals with the administration of Ca’ Viola.
From the roughest vineyards, with old vines, Faticato is produced. It is made from a late harvest of Nebbiolo, fined in oak barrels for a year. With this wine Emanuele Anzivino and his oenologist Giuseppe Zatti have offered us a product of considerable value. Even Gattinara Reserve 2004, after a further year of fining, expresses more complexity and a more direct bond with the land. The presence of international vineyards gives an unusual vegetable aroma to the basic wines. Altogether, the company offers a wine list of absolute quality. It continues with discretion, in the name of quality, its activity as a farmhouse inn.
