Borgo Antico is a family owned winery in the hills of Conegliano Veneto, a land of moraine origin and rich in clay that has always been devoted to the cultivation of vines and that gives wines delicate scents and particularly determined aromas.
The adventure begins in 1973, when Mr. Marchesin Vito decides to produce local wines, involving the whole family and especially his son Leonardo who, as a child, accompanies him into the vineyard taking in the atmosphere and learning the secrets of a fascinating work, initiating that learning which will lead Leonardo to become winemaker. In 1995 he takes over the reins of the company, which now has 15 hectares of land and produces 70,000 bottles a year. The most widely planted variety, ie 80% of the total production, is represented by the CONEGLIANO–VALDOBBIADENE PROSECCO SUPERIORE DOCG, and by some native varieties such as Marzemino and Verdiso, while the rest is represented by Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay.
Our is a winery that vinifies only grapes of own production and of our own bestowers, these latter carefully selected and followed in the vineyard. The attention starts from the plant with a respectful approach in choosing not to use herbicides and to minimize the use of chemicals. The grape harvest done by hand in boxes certainly adds value and quality to the final product. All this is nationally recognized with awards such as the Vinitaly award (bronze medal with the sparkling wine Prosecco DOC Conegliano–Valdobbiadene 2008), numerous reviews in industry magazines such as “Grandi Spumanti Italiani”, “I Grandi Vini” – “Guida Bollicine” e by the “Gambero Rosso” guide, awarded as Italian Sparkling Wine with the best value for money. To mention are numerous awards at regional and local levels.
In 1962 the young man Tarcisio Bernardi, feeling tight in his role as member of the cooperative winery, decided to vinify on his own the grapes produced by him and to sell the wine, with the experience of at least three generations of winemakers.
At the time, the mechanization of agriculture was just at the beginning, the rugged hills of Pedeguarda – Follina – required hard work and the soil was sometimes stingy. These difficulties brought the Bernardi family, in 1972, to move to Ogliano, on the hills of Conegliano.
Now the company has an area of about 16 hectares of which 13 are planted with vineyards, grouped together in one body surrounding the company estate, an impressive network of rows on green hills exposed to the sun. Time has passed, new generations have begun to work besides the old ones, the traditional methods of working have combined with new technologies that help to improve the wines’ quality, making them responsive to market demands, but the attachment to the territory, love for nature and the genuineness of its products have remained intact.

Almost a hundred years have passed, since the day when Bepi Zardetto lost his chariot, his horses, and the entire load of barrels during the retreat of Caporetto, on the Italian front in the First World War. One hundred years that have seen a family tracing their history in a straight, continuous line, marked by the work and the passion of its members.
Between the silver medal with which in 1934 Ernesto Zardetto was awarded in the Sweet Wines category (or, as he called them, “vin da botiglia”) and the affirmation of Prosecco Zardetto on the international market and on the tables around the world, there is only the long fruitful path of the same, extraordinary dedication to wine–making that the Zardetto family has handed down from father to son.
After Bepi, Ernesto and Pino, silent protagonists of an unbroken history, it was the turn of Fabio, the sole owner since 1998, to give a new verve to the company. Convinced advocate of the need to devote himself exclusively to the specialized production of Prosecco Spumante, in 2002 paved the way to the construction of a new winery, equipped with cutting–edge technologies. His constant pursuit of excellence led to in a great impulse to the modernization of sparkling wine making techniques, in an optimal organization of production and in constructive cooperation with the winemakers of confidence in the most suited vineyards.
Fabio Zardetto, careful breeder of grapes and a great connoisseur of the terroirs of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, wants to believe firmly that its wines are an expression of the different specificities of every single vineyard, fruit of his personal research and of love for his land.
It is a company leader in technology, which for over 140 years has been committed to the study of viticulture and oenology for the enhancement of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and, since 2005, in the development of the ambitious project called "The Sparkling Wine Art".
First of four generations and company’s founder, Antonio Carpenè serior, introduced in Italy the Champenoise method for the production of sparkling wine and created the first Italian Wine School located in Conegliano.
The second generation sees in Etile Carpenè senior a decisive initiator of the first advertisement campaigns on the world of wine. Thanks to him, in 1924, Carpenè Malvolti created its first label bearing the name "Prosecco Amabile dei Colli di Conegliano", anticipating for almost a century, the current enhancement of the vines.
Under his leadership, the steam distillery and the famous "a zucchetta" bottle of grappa were created.
The Giavi farm is named after Francesco Giavi, who at the beginning of the twentieth century bought from the Tezza family the valuable estate near Conegliano located on the South–West end of the Monticella hill that dominates and overlooks the town in itself. On old toponyms, the locality is named Monticella–Tezza, precisely after the family who owned it in the early nineteenth century and who gave to the town of Conegliano Blessed Luigi Tezza, born in the forefathers’ house still on top of the hill.
The estate has always been characterized by an almost entirely oriented winemaking vocation, overlooking the town of Conegliano, and it is thought that CIMA painted some of his Madonnas and the Conegliano landscape from the hills exactly from the Monticella hill, from a hillock which currently enjoys the sun, that lights all day a plantation of Prosecco grapes.
Considerable impetus has been given to the activities with the replanting, in recent years, of Prosecco and Rosso dei Colli di Conegliano vines, and everything is registered in the respective doc regulations and the estate is a member of the consortium of Prosecco Conegliano–Valdobbiadene.
