On the one hand our cellar is characterised by tradition and cultural heritage, and on the other by cutting edge technology. New steel tanks between old walls - this is symbolic of the interaction between old and new in the St. Pauls Cooperative Winery. The art lies in the achieving the right balance.
The architecture also mirrors the philosophy of this out-of-the-ordinary winery, which was named “Winery of the Year 2000“ by the Italian wine guide "I Vini d’Italia" published by Gambero Rosso and Slow Food. Owing to the harmonious symbiosis of tradition and innovation, the ambitious Appiano vintners and their inspired master wine maker have joined the ranks of the leading wine producers of South Tyrol and, indeed, all Italy.
With 350 members, a cultivated area of 380 hectares and more than 2.5 million bottles sold per year, the
winery San Michele-Appiano has become synonymous with top quality wines all round the world. And the label “Sanct Valentin“ makes the heart of many a wine lover beat faster.
The modern story of the ancient Castle Sallegg starts in 1851: Archduke Rainer of Austria, Viceroy of the Lombardy and Veneto purchased the castle and surrounding wine-growing estates in that year.
Continued ownership descended from Prince Heinrich Campofranco to the Counts von Kuenburg. The fine cellars in the castle are testament of landed gentry that has always connected castle living with wine creation.
Konrad Augschöll has been one of the first in the Chiusa area to bottle wine on his own. Today, his small company covers three hectares of land planted with vines on steep slopes.
The Solva family has always believed in white wines and especially in Pinot Bianco, an unjustly underrated over the years grape variety. The company is located in the hamlet of San Nicolò, and produces distinctive wines, typical, with a good value for money.

Manincor wines are naturally pure. At an age of 28, Markus Prackwieser started a quiet transformation and has produced his own wine since. His wines have been sought after both nationally and internationally, especially his outstanding Praesulis Selection wine range. The name Praesulis derives from the nearby Castle of Presule.
After a merger in 2001 with the wine producers of Gries (since 1908) and Santa Maddalena (since 1930), we are one of South Tyrol's top-quality wineries. The grapes of 200 vine growers ensure that our high-quality wines win prizes in South Tyrol's capital time and again.
The “Cru” system of classifying vineyards was introduced in Bordeaux in 1855. Although at Kurtatsch there is no official classification, growers draw on centuries of experience to match each grape variety with its ideal site. Many sites are so steep that tractors could never be used and can only be worked laboriously by hand. The south of South Tyrol regularly experiences an Indian Summer with warm autumn days alternating with chilly nights, enabling growers to draw out the grape “hang time” to the point where optimum ripeness coincides with excellent acidity levels. The winemaker can avail himself of state-of-the-art technology, refrigeration equipment, stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled fermentation, new oak barriques and traditional oak casks. Only perfectly healthy grapes find their way into the press. Before bottling all wines are scrutinised by expert tasters and are released for sale at optimum maturity.
The Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 by 23 vintners congregating at this historic country estate (dating back to the 16th century) in the village of Girlan in the region of Alto Adige. Back then – 90 years ago – the 23 charter members had an annual production of a mere 2,700 hectoliters of wine.
The Cantina Girlan now has 200 wine-grower members, for a total area of 220 hectares of vineyards in the best growing zones of the Oltradige and Bassa Atesina.
The winery Villa Piccola was founded in 1991 by the Rossi family. The passion for vine-growing and for the territory made the project for the new winery possible and a whole family dream came true. The Rossi family grows 5 hectares vineyards for an annual production of 35.000 bottles.
Villa Piccola presents eight precious wines, examples of the strong bond to the local territory and of the constant care for the vineyards. Eight great products introduce Villa Piccola to the restaurants and to the national and international markets.
Quality is always preferred to quantity. Villa Piccola, aware of being a rather small reality believes and invests in a constant quality research, in the vineyards as well as in the cellar, with the result of being always up-to-date and ready to welcome new growing and wine-making techniques.
The labels Silbrarii and Arçentarie boast the best wines produced in Trentino: among the white wines Chardonnay and Traminer Aromatic need a special mention, among the reds the wooden aged Pinot Noir and Lagrein excel.
