The “Cru” system of classifying vineyards was introduced in Bordeaux in 1855. Although at Kurtatsch there is no official classification, growers draw on centuries of experience to match each grape variety with its ideal site. Many sites are so steep that tractors could never be used and can only be worked laboriously by hand. The south of South Tyrol regularly experiences an Indian Summer with warm autumn days alternating with chilly nights, enabling growers to draw out the grape “hang time” to the point where optimum ripeness coincides with excellent acidity levels. The winemaker can avail himself of state-of-the-art technology, refrigeration equipment, stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled fermentation, new oak barriques and traditional oak casks. Only perfectly healthy grapes find their way into the press. Before bottling all wines are scrutinised by expert tasters and are released for sale at optimum maturity.
The Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 by 23 vintners congregating at this historic country estate (dating back to the 16th century) in the village of Girlan in the region of Alto Adige. Back then – 90 years ago – the 23 charter members had an annual production of a mere 2,700 hectoliters of wine.
The Cantina Girlan now has 200 wine-grower members, for a total area of 220 hectares of vineyards in the best growing zones of the Oltradige and Bassa Atesina.
The winery Villa Piccola was founded in 1991 by the Rossi family. The passion for vine-growing and for the territory made the project for the new winery possible and a whole family dream came true. The Rossi family grows 5 hectares vineyards for an annual production of 35.000 bottles.
Villa Piccola presents eight precious wines, examples of the strong bond to the local territory and of the constant care for the vineyards. Eight great products introduce Villa Piccola to the restaurants and to the national and international markets.
Quality is always preferred to quantity. Villa Piccola, aware of being a rather small reality believes and invests in a constant quality research, in the vineyards as well as in the cellar, with the result of being always up-to-date and ready to welcome new growing and wine-making techniques.
The labels Silbrarii and Arçentarie boast the best wines produced in Trentino: among the white wines Chardonnay and Traminer Aromatic need a special mention, among the reds the wooden aged Pinot Noir and Lagrein excel.
The De Vescovi Family has been growing vines in Mezzocorona for more than 300 years.
A few years ago, Giulio De Vescovi at the end of his course of study, fresh of degree in Viticulture and Oenology decided to fulfill his dream: to create a great wine. In 2003, the first true vinification, and in October 2005 the presentation of the label and its marketing.
The Simoncelli family began to grow vines over two centuries ago and, in the farmhouse that stands in the middle of the vineyard, today’s cellar was established. Armando Simoncelli has decided to revisit the old traditions in 1977 and to bottle with his own name on the label.
The owned vineyards cover twelve hectares, today.
The company, part of the Cavit group, operates between Rovereto and Lake Garda, and promotes the wines bottled on their own, so as to distinguish and characterize the work of its members. The final product is of high quality at extremely competitive prices.
The winery Madonna delle Vittorie produces red and white wines Trentino DOC in the classic and summolaco (blend of grapes) lines, as well as sparkling wines, as for instance the renowned Spumante Trento DOC. The oil mill Madonna delle Vittorie presses only Garda Trentino olives and extracts superior quality extra virgin olive oil, like the Olio Extravergine Garda DOP and the finest Olio Extravergine Denocciolato (stoneless).
The Fedrizzi family has been growing vines for generations, vinifying on its own grapes in the small winery in the center of Mezzolombardo.
Federico Bossi Fedrigotti, father of the current owners, was the one who understood the need for a profound transformation. Thanks to him, the wholesale trade was abolished and they passed to bottling; it was always him who created the first "Bordeaux blend" in Italy, obtained by the contemporary vinification of Merlot and Cabernet grapes. The new wine, accompanied by a constant success, was given the name of "Fojaneghe rosso", from the estate where the best grapes of the two varieties were and are grown.
The Conti Bossi Fedrigotti Company is today flanked by the experience of Masi Agricola. The recent partnership agreement provides support by Masi in terms of cutting–edge technology and international marketing network.
