A name. A family. The name is that of the founder: Paolo Scavino, who in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Langhe, in one of the historical municipalities of Barolo, has created a farm, beginning immediately to bottle the best wine.
The name has remained, even after the demise of Paolo Scavino. It is a memory, a sign of affection, gratitude. Today there are two other generations of Scavino: Enrico, who followed in his father Paolo’s footsteps since he was a child, and has always seen the fruits of his work grow, entering step by step, almost on tiptoes, in the Olympus of the Barolo producers; and the young Enrica and Elisa, the daughters of Enrico and Anna Maria, who are taking over the company with renovated passion and skills.
A family story of men and women of Langa, tied to their land, their vineyards, and to the slow paces, almost ancient, of the Piedmontese province. It seems that you can see the roots of the Scavino family in these lands, that are the fortune of people who were born here. In this place Barolo is obtained exclusively from native grapes of Nebbiolo, one of the greatest wines in the world. One of the few to speak the Piedmontese dialect, but everybody understands it, from the U.S.A. to Japan.

The Cavallotto family have been owners, for five generations and in 1948, continuing the work of grandfather Giacomo, father Giuseppe and uncle Marcello, the brothers Olivio and Gildo were the first in the area, as direct farmers, to dedicate themselves to the vinification of their grapes and the marketing of their wines.
Still, the children of Olivio – Laura, Giuseppe and Alfio – continue to make wine exclusively from the grapes grown in the Estate and, from their processing, DOC and DOCG wines are produced: Barolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo Langhe, Freisa Langhe, Grignolino Piemonte, Pinot Langhe, Chardonnay Langhe.

Roberto is not an oenologist, nor an agronomist, but his expertise and experience in the sector are great. For him, the vineyard, the land, the tradition, represent a valuable asset that must be understood, respected, loved and protected. Here, in the family business, there is no place for rotating vinificators or concentrators, and neither barriques have any hope to be placed in the winery, because here Barolo must tell the story of this land, to bring all the noble and inimitable traits of a regal grape and never understood enough like Nebbiolo. The wines that come from Serralunga d’Alba, it is known, are not easy and alluring, rather austere, indulge themselves little by little, they need a long evolution.
The Roagna family have been dealing with viticulture and winery for over a century and a half, when the style of traditional winemaking was implemented. Great–grandfather Vincenzo owned the historic winery in the center of the small village of Barbaresco and, after harvesting the grapes in the early mists or “nebbie” (hence the name “Nebbiolo”), made wine in wood casks, and so is made today. Years later, Giovanni Roagna and Maria Candida moved the company to the farmhouse I Paglieri (Paj), seeing in that hill one of the maximum expressions of the territory.
