The best wineries in Piemonte.
Family farm of about six hectares divided into three different kind of production:
two hectares dedicated to Dolcetto, two to Barbera and two to nebbiolo grapes for Barolo wine.
All the vineyards are located in La Morra, in the little village of Santa Maria where the cellar, called Prima, is situated.
Up to 1987 I gave all the grapes to the local cooperative wine growers' association.
Since 1987 vintage, I have started to produce on my own.
The new winery of the Terralba company was created in the hills between Volpeglino and Berzano. In this wonderful environment, the basement of Stephen Daffonchio produces its wines, that are certainly not easy, that need time to express themselves, but it is a wait that does not leave disappointed those who have patience.
This estate was born in 1930 with Domenico Taliano, but its roots are deeper. In fact Domenico belongs to a family of farmers dedicated to works in vineyards and fields, known in Montà with the nickname of "Re Cit" that in piedmontese dialect means "Little Kings". In that period all the vineyards were close to Montà, in zones called Bossola, Rolandi, Benna. In the mid-seventies, the estate grows again towards Langhe by means of Domenico's son, Michele. He bought the vineyards and a farmhouse at the locality named Montersino, close to San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, a small fraction of the capital of Langhe, Alba, and between the villages of Treiso and Barbaresco.
Twenty years later, in the mid-nineties, two of the four Michele's sons, Alberto at first and, after some formative work experiences outside the farm, Ezio, began to renovate the farm. Their work was addressed to the improvement of the methodologies of the grape production and the refinement of the wines. Ezio is also the oenologist of the farm.
Passion for wine and tradition. The Seghesio winery has always identified itself with the territory of Monforte d'Alba. Since the 60s grandfather Ettore had started to believe in wine growing, which has become the main activity over the years. The vineyards have always been the core of the family in which work, dedication and effort have given origin to high quality wines, which represent the Langa region.
Their land, the commitment of Aldo and Riccardo, Ettore's sons, and their ties with the hills of Monforte have enabled this winery to create a precise company identity since the 80s: the Seghesio winery, dedicated to Barolo, the first wine to be bottled in 1988. Tradition meets the latest oenological and technical developments to better enhance the local wines.
The company has been managed for ten years by the Cavallero brothers, who both fought for the revaluation of Ruché, a native aromatic grape variety that contributes to the production of the company’s wines. At the center of the production of the company, there are also Barbera, Grignolino and Cortese vines.
Cascina Salicetti is a 42 hectare farm whose main body and lands stretch upon a sunny hill that stands out against the pre-Appenine chain in East Piedmont. 15 hectares are devoted to vine-growing, the farm main production since the early 1900s, although the growth in the production of wine is due to Pietro Franzosi who, for the last 30 years, has been able to produce better- quality wines. The heritage of Pietro has been taken over by his son Anselmo, winemaker, who has achieved remarkable results. Anselmo has focused his attention on high-quality vine-growing, by selecting the fittest DOC Colli Tortonesi grapes as well as refurbishing the winery according to the latest technology.
Cascina Salicetti, thanks to its small dimensions, is able to pay the utmost daily attention to each phase in the production of wine. As a result, the consumer can taste elegant, full-body wines exuding a rich and attractive bouquet, produced according to the latest wine-making trends.
Our company is located in the hills of Tortona, in Val Curone, in the municipality of Montemarzino, a town which is located in the Province of Alessandria at an altitude of 448 m, 38 km far from the capital. Our history is that of the vinegrowers present in the territory of Tortona for more than three generations.
In our four hectares of vineyards, we decided to focus more on quality than on quantity, opting for low yields of production without the use of herbicides, chemical fertilizers and systemic products. The result is all to savor.
Azienda Agricola Paolo Giuseppe Poggio is located on the hills of Val Curone and covers thirteen hectares of land in the property. About three hectares of surface is subservient to viticulture with a good presence of Cortese and Barbera; minor but significant, the part to: Timorasso, Moscato, Croatina.
In the 50s Luigi Pira decided to focus on grapes and wine, in the following decades he sold grapes and open wine to the biggest wineries in the area of Alba which sought after high quality products from Serralunga d'Alba.
It was a first step towards its own production, which was impressed in this earth and able to give great red wines, Barolo above all. In the early 90s Gianpaolo, Luigi's son, started to take part in the winery management, and the wine quality became the key factor. Today Gianpaolo is flanked by his brothers Romolo and Claudio.
The Perrone family has been producing Moscato in the hills of Castiglione Tinella since the end of the nineteenth century; four generations of wine growers are behind this company that since 1989 has been led by Stefano Perrone, with the specific aim of qualitative selection in the vineyard and of productive rigor in the winery.
The total area of the company now covers eleven hectares of vineyards, all planted on a hill, in ideal weather conditions.
In the heart of the production area of Barbera d’Asti this small family–run company is located, which now has seven hectares of land planted with vines, part owned, part rented.
Paitin enterprise history started in 1796 when Benedetto Elia purchased from Luigi Pellissero the farmstead with outlying wine cellar and vineyards. His son Giuseppe extended later vineyards and acquired the underground cellar, dating back to XV century.
Since1898 it has been started wine foreign exportation, while since1893 Barbaresco del Sori Paitin has been produced.
Enterprise started full activity in 1965 again with Secondo Pasquero-Elia, who built a new wine cellar, by replanting gradually vineyards and acquiring new vines.
Dino, the company's founder, was one of the first to understand the importance of putting in bottles the selections from the best vineyards of the property. The son Andrei continued in the wake of his father, bringing the Mutti company to establish itself as one of the most important realities in the area.
Giulio and Paolo Morando lead this productive reality now established, producing a series of labels representing the land owned by the family. In a market now overstocked and overcrowded, the intelligence of the calibrated variety, with character and originality, allows to satisfy the most demanding consumers and to consolidate their positions.
Located at Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe hills, the estate was founded in 1996, when Pier Paolo Monti purchased a few vineyards in the area as well as the adjacent farmstead, and built the winery on the latter's premises.
The vineyards of Bussia, San Martino, Val di Sacco, Camie, Chiese, are all within the Monforte commune and cover a total of approximately 16 hectares (25 acres) and 6 varieties: Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo destined for Barolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which go into Monti's Dossi Rossi Langhe DOC, and two white grapes, Riesling Renano (Rheinriesling) and Chardonnay, which make up the white Langhe DOC, L'Aura.
The newly built winery is functional in layout, state-of-the-art in equipment, with separate, temperature-controlled areas for each phase from fermentation to bottling. In the underground cellars, the wines are matured and aged in oak.
