Santa Margherita

Eighty years of wine–making history, but more than two centuries of business. Santa Margherita was founded in 1935 by the will of Count Gaetano Marzotto who, then, drove the eponymous textile group in Vicenza started in the early nineteenth century by his grandfather Luigi. A precise willingness: to create an innovative agricultural hub that broke with the traditional patterns of the time and that would represent a factor of modernity and development. A vision perfectly in line with the verve of Count Gaetano: a real tycoon who was able to melt business goals with social needs. Around Azienda Agricola Santa Margherita – as well as in Valdagno around the estates of Marzotto – the first residential quarters for employees, cultural and recreational facilities were created. A true sensitivity, not outward, which went on during the difficult years of the Second World War and during the immediate postwar period.

A significant entrepreneurial figure in Italian economic history: as capable as a few others to read the trend of the world economy (it was always he who invented the first hotel chains suggesting a future for tourism to the country); to address public choices, but also to encourage a more widespread development fully deserving the title of "enterprise humanist".

Count Gaetano had eight children and now his grandson, who bears his name, the son of his eldest son Vittorio Emanuele, presides over Santa Margherita.
