The company is managed by the Berlucchi brothers, is located in the heart of Franciacorta, in the central part of the moraine hills, and is characterized by a very personal style. All its wines – especially sparkling – enjoy a tasting structure based on a perfect balance among fruity, citrus, mineral and fragrant features, orchestrated by perlage obtained with mastery: a guarantee of harmonious wines easy to pair with all dishes.
The production implemented by the staff of the company has shown, in the years, a constant growth, proven even by the top Franciacorta Satèn 2005, a product of rare delicacy and complexity, witness of how the Corte Franca area with its calcareous soils of moraine origins can generate bubbles of exceptional substance and longevity. Outstanding is the level of the entire produciton, especially referring to its easy availability and its wide choice.
Guido Berlucchi, a descendant of the Counts Lana de Terzi, produced Pinot del Castello with the grapes of the Castle of Borgonato’s vineyards, a white wine not very stable in the bottle.
His friend Alessandro Borghesi advised him to meet a young and dynamic oenologist: Franco Ziliani.
It was the spring of 1955. Ziliani went to the palace of Lana Berlucchi, and promised to his host to remedying the instability
of the still wine, and proposed to create a classic method in Franciacorta.
The beautiful house, the elegant person of Berlucchi and the ancient underground cellars had inspired Ziliani,
who had seen a chance to materialize his dream as a boy: to produce a wine with second fermentation in the bottle.
Berlucchi accepted the challenge and in 1961 three thousand bottles of Pinot di Franciacorta were sealed. The Franciacorta wine was created, and the feedback of the first tasters was so encouraging that, the year after, Ziliani created Max Rosé, the first classic method rosé in Italy: a dedication to the refined Max Imbert, a friend of Guido Berlucchi and a lover of the rosé bubbles.
The company of the Costa family now has fifteen hectares of land planted with vines in Corte Franca, that provides excellent grapes for the production of quality wines.
Guido Berlucchi & C S.p.A. di Borgonato (Brescia) is the mother house, founded in 1955 by Guido Berlucchi, Franco Ziliani, and Giorgio Lanciani. As classic-method sector leader in Italy, it relies on about 600 hectares of vineyards in Franciacorta and employs more than 90 persons in administration, winemaking, and vineyard operations.
