The prestigious award given to the general manager of the historic Oltrepò Pavese winery, presented during the ViniPlus Lombardia Guide presentation, highlights its virtuous path focused on research and quality.

Research, vineyard selection, and qualitative growth of Oltrepò Pavese wines: these are some of the key principles that have characterized the virtuous path of Gabriele Picchi, general manager of Torrevilla, now elected "Winemaker of the Year" by AIS Lombardia .

On Monday, December 1st, the 20th edition of the ViniPlus Guide was presented at The Westin Palace Hotel in Milan, a symbolic milestone that this year also coincides with its 20th anniversary. During the event, the Association officially inaugurated the prestigious new "Winemaker of the Year" award, a recognition dedicated to professionals who have significantly contributed to the qualitative growth of wine in their region.

Picchi's origins are rooted in the Oltrepò Pavese, a land of vineyards and ancient winemaking traditions: " I grew up in a family that cultivated vineyards ," he emphasizes, "and has been producing wine for generations. This allowed me to understand and express my passion from an early age. From there, I chose to study Agriculture and then Oenology. My origins and the support of my family have been, and continue to be, fundamental ." His story conveys a sense of belonging and gratitude, a deep connection to the land, passed down from generation to generation.

Gabriele brought his vision to Torrevilla first, and then to Cantina La Genisia : enhancing the quality of the vineyards to bring out the extraordinary potential of the Oltrepò Pavese. " My agricultural roots ," he continues, " have always tied me to the families of the local winemakers. I have worked to develop the quality of the vineyards and wines, to raise awareness of the great potential of our Oltrepò. This has become a reality with La Genisia: the finest crus from the Torrevilla vineyards. For this, I thank the members, the winery staff, and everyone who made this project possible."

For Picchi, the award's significance is both singular and universal, personal but above all territorial: " Such a prestigious award honors and rewards me for the work I've done. But I also see it as recognition of the development of the region. There are so many winemakers, companies, and a Consortium that stand out for their growth in quality and the promotion of wines. We must continue like this ."

His message conveys a sense of positive responsibility: a drive to continue promoting the Oltrepò Pavese, now more than ever recognized as an increasingly emblematic laboratory.
