A couple of world&nash;beaters brings AIS Tuscany to the two highest steps of the podium of the national competition
An unforgettable Sunday for AIS Tuscany: Andrea Galanti from Florence is the Best Sommelier in Italy 2015. The Florentine sommelier closes its 2015 with the best possible result, climbing to the top step of the national competition, joined by another Tuscan: Massimo Tortora from Livorno, who ranked second overall.
The proclamation of the winner of the Best Sommelier in Italy – Franciacorta Award 2015, arrived today at the end of the heated final contest that saw opposing the two Tuscans and the Umbrian sommelier Maurizio Dante Filippi on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of AIS Italia, in the presence among the others of the AIS National Chairman Antonello Maietta.
Who is the Best AIS Sommelier in Italy?
Andrea Galanti, young professional sommelier, is the owner of the historic Gastronomia Galanti family shop in Florence, but also a spearhead for AIS Tuscany: Best Sommelier in Tuscany 2015, but even before third ranked in 2012 at the Alfiere del Prosecco Award that was held in Conegliano, in 2013 and 2014 place of honor at the Best Sommelier in Tuscany, always in 2014 sixth ranked overall in the Best Sommelier in Italy and in 2015, before climbing on the top of the Italian sommellerie, he won not only the regional title but also the Master of Sangiovese and the Master of Soave.
Andrea Galanti: «to be full of grit and of that confidence acquired only with experience serves, too»
«To say I am delighted is an understatement – Andrea Galanti commented during the awards ceremony – after the regional title today becoming Italian champion is a feeling that can not be described. An exciting experience that I have tried to live in the best way without getting caught by the emotion of walking an important stage like this. I have not realized it yet, but I can say that I enjoyed it a lot. I think this is the right spirit with which to address these important competitions. Proving to be prepared is not enough: to be full of grit and of that confidence acquired only with experience serves, too».
«What I feel today is a sentiment of great satisfaction – the Chairman of AIS Tuscany Osvaldo Baroncelli commented immediately after the proclamation – because it is the proof that young people who approach to the sommellerie and choose to take this path are really motivated, they believe in the Association, but also have great enthusiasm that animates their desire to get involved anyway. Young people like those we see today on the highest podium of the Italian Sommellerie – Andrea is only 31 – are a guarantee for the future of our Association. Behind these results, there is so much work, so much time spent studying but also a great desire to do even better and to feel never arrived. A great opportunity for AIS Tuscany confirming the validity of its own Contests School led by Simona Bizzarri, but above all, for them, an important springboard for the future, made of professionalism and opportunities if employment and growth».
