The agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF), Federdoc (National Confederation of Consortia for the Protection of Wines with Designation of Origin), orIGin Italia (the association of Consortia for the Protection of Italian Geographical Indications), and eBay for the protection of Geographical Indications (GIs) in e-commerce was renewed today.
The collaboration between Masaf and one of the leading marketplaces, eBay, began in 2014 with the aim of combating the counterfeiting of excellent GI-certified agri-food and wine products on the virtual market. With each renewal, the synergy with eBay, the Ministry, and the representative organizations of the Protection Consortia has grown, aiming to strengthen the protection of our agri-food and wine heritage on the platform.
Francesco Liantonio, vice president of Federdoc He states : "We are pleased with the results achieved by the protocol in recent years and consider the collaboration fostered with each renewal between Masaf and eBay to be invaluable, as well as the synergy created to support, encourage, and protect Italy's immense agri-food and wine heritage, while also protecting consumers. The protocol also represents a fundamental tool for supporting the role played by the Consortia for the protection of GIs, expressions of excellent agri-food and wine production and the vocation of our territory."
