The event, which will conclude with the final evening and the awards ceremony in Taormina on Sunday 27 April 2025 , represents a highly prestigious event for the world of Sicilian wine.
" The Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia " - underlines Giuseppe Figlioli , oenologist and advisor to the board of directors of the Consortium - "is proud to contribute to the growth of the new generation of sommeliers, supporting an event that rewards professionalism and promotes the excellence of Sicilian wine in Italy and around the world ."
An important new feature of this edition is the advancement of the date of the competition , traditionally set in October, to the month of April . This choice will allow participants to prepare in advance for the Best Sommelier of Italy Competition, scheduled for November. Consequently, the lessons of the Competition School will also be held between March and the beginning of April, offering an in-depth training course in which competitors will be able to improve their tasting skills and knowledge of Sicilian wines and companies. The meetings will be led by teachers of regional and national level , with a special appointment held by the Best Sommelier of Italy .
The collaboration between the Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia and AIS Sicilia also takes shape with a series of initiatives aimed at enriching the training path of the participants. Three Sicilian wineries , belonging to different areas of the island, will open their doors to the students of the Scuola Concorsi, offering a direct experience in the territory. In addition, three masterclasses dedicated to Sicilian vines will be organized, with a particular focus on Lucido, Grillo and Nero d'Avola , as well as a selection of red wines. On the occasion of the final evening of the competition, the Consortium will provide the wines for an exclusive masterclass , the program of which is still being defined.
To celebrate the talent of the best Sicilian sommeliers, the first three classified will be donated magnums of DOC Sicilia wines , thanks to the participation of sixteen companies that have already enthusiastically joined the initiative.
CONSORTIUM FOR THE PROTECTION OF DOC SICILY WINES
The Consortium for the protection of DOC Sicilia wines (siciliadoc.wine) was created in 2012, with the aim of representing the wine of the Sicilian territory and promoting the DOC Sicilia denomination, with actions aimed at increasing the visibility of a brand that is a symbol of Made in Italy and at protecting and supervising the consumer and producers. Around 7,000 winemakers and over 500 bottlers are promoters of the Controlled Designation of Origin, a recognition useful for representing them but also for enhancing and safeguarding the island's wine production.
