From July 31st to August 3rd, a residential course at the VINE LODGE ACADEMY in Capriva del Friuli to learn the innovative technique that saves the plants and keeps the quality of the grapes intact.

To combat esca sickness, the VINE MASTER PRUNERS SIMONIT&SIRCH have successfully developed the dendrosurgery technique for years, a real surgical operation on the vine plants thanks to which the white decay that colonizes the woody structure of the plants and cause the infection is eliminated with specific equipment, keeping the quality of the grapes intact. The results that the SIMONIT&SIRCH Team has achieved in 13 years of work and experimentation are surprising and of great importance both for the quality of the wines and for the company's economic savings : in fact, 90% of the plants treated have returned fully productive . Dendrosurgery is, at the moment, the only valid technique to stop the disease of the esca and avoid the uprooting .

For those wishing to learn the basics of this technique, a residential course led by SIMONIT&SIRCH technicians is organized from 31 July to 3 August 2023 on the Mario Schiopetto Campus in Capriva del Friuli . Aimed at everyone, the course is a unique opportunity to learn this technique capable of prolonging the productive life of the vines. The maximum number of participants is 12 people .

The course will be divided into 3 training days for a total of 5 practical lessons and 1 theoretical one . The venue for the course will be the VINE LODGE ACADEMY in Capriva del Friuli , where the students will stay and the theoretical part will be held, while the practical lessons will take place in the neighboring vineyards of the Mario Schiopetto Campus. The participation fee is €1,200 per person and includes, in addition to the course, 3 nights with breakfast, the rental of clothing and equipment, insurance and a visit to the Mario Schiopetto Campus (where the SIMONIT&SIRCH Method took embryonic form more than 30 years ago), to the company's cellars and a tasting of its wines. At the end, participants will receive a certificate of participation in the course and the PRUNINGUY/ PRUNINGIRL T-shirt. For those who register by 5 July, the fee is €1,100

Dendrosurgery by SIMONIT&SIRCH
SiMONIT&SIRCH technicians subjected more than 15,000 plants of 12 varieties to tree surgery (Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Malvasia Istriana, Sangiovese, Gruener Veltiner, Carmenere, Malbec), in vineyards of 12 Italian and foreign regions: Collio, Franciacorta, Montalcino, Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Mendoza, Kamptal, Steiermark, Pfalz, Istria and Maipo in Chile. By analyzing the data collected - and also validated by the University and by the INRA Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique of Bordeaux - it is clear that dendrosurgery slows the progression of mortality symptoms of infected plants and that the quality of the grapes is comparable with that of healthy plants. It is not the same for unoperated infected plants. In 13 years of work and experimentation, 90% of the treated plants returned fully productive.
