The new training courses of AIS Veneto dedicated to those who want to become Sommeliers will begin between September and October: 35 courses are planned, divided into three levels, distributed throughout the region. Furthermore, those who enroll in the first level by 25 August will be able to participate in AISpeak, an hour and a half online training on the main wine terminologies in English.

“Our aim has always been to train wine communicators,” says Gianpaolo Breda , president of AIS Veneto. The courses are renewed every year following the evolution of the wine scene to give future Sommeliers the most suitable tools to face the challenges of the future. The questionnaires submitted to the trainees concerning the degree of satisfaction with the training course underlined an ever greater interest in wine tourism : when asked what content could make community life more stimulating, 83% replied indicating a greater number of events and a greater knowledge of food and wine itineraries . If on the one hand all this represents an unequivocal sign of the importance that wine tourism is acquiring, on the other, for AIS, it represents a goal on which to focus by offering members and new members more opportunities to experience and get to know the area, also through the new training courses”.
In the first level courses it will be possible to study elements of viticulture, oenology and service which represent the foundations of the Sommelier profession, starting from the correct temperature for pouring the wine up to the organization and management of the cellar. During the lessons, as well as wine, we will also talk about beers and spirits, all constantly accompanied by theoretical and practical tests on the tasting technique.
The second level examines the most important Italian and foreign wine-growing areas and allows us to grasp the indissoluble bond between wine and territory. The constant improvement of the tasting technique thus becomes a discriminating element for appreciating every single nuance and expressing a professional and objective judgement.
The third level deals with the technique of tasting food and its combination with wine through practical tasting tests with different types of food and preparations. At the end of the entire training course there is a qualifying exam, after which the title of AIS Sommelier is obtained.
