10 Morellino di Scansano Docg, selected by a jury of well-known tasters, protagonists of three evenings in Tuscany

The Consorzio di Tutela Morellino di Scansano Docg announces the first edition of Morellino del Cuore, a project, developed in synergy with the journalists Antonio Stelli and Roberta Perna, designed to make known to an ever wider public a wine that tells of a land, the Maremma, where the sea, hills and mountains create a unique habitat for Sangiovese, the symbolic vine of the Morellino di Scansano Docg.

On Friday 5 May, a commission made up of 6 jurors, journalists and expert tasters will meet at the headquarters of the Morellino di Scansano Docg Consortium, who will decree 10 Morellino di Scansano Docg to be the protagonists of three evenings in Tuscany open to the public and the press.

The tasters selected for this first edition are some of the best-known Italian journalists, called to elect 10 Morellino del cuore, labels that for them best reflect the territory and the soul of the denomination.

They will taste the labels:

Antonio Boco – Typically, Food and Wine

Andrea Gori – Intravino and Business People

Riccardo Margheri – Good Wines of Italy

Richard Baudains – Decanters

Stefania Vinciguerra – Doctorwine

William Pregentelli – Gambero Rosso wines

Journalists will have to elect a precise number of labels for each type, specifically: for Morellino Annata four references, for Morellino "Intermediate", which is placed between Annata and Riserva going out on the market after the Vintage but not following the same path of refinement of the Reserve, three references and for the Reserve another three references.

These ten labels will tour Tuscany together and will become queens of three dinners open to the public and the press in which the journalist Antonio Stelli and one or more representatives of the Consortium will explain their characteristics and peculiarities to those present.

The theme of this first edition of Morellino del Cuore will be "Morellino also in summer", served at a lower temperature and also combined with fish dishes or vegetable-based dishes, demonstrating the versatility of a wine in which Sangiovese expresses less sharp edges , with tannins that are never too muscular and tend towards softness, characteristics that go well with even fresher serving levels.

The first evening will be held on May 24 in Florence at the Boulevard Parc Bistrò, a place for the promotion and dissemination of quality wine, an event space and a bistro. Before the dinner there will be a tasting guided by the journalist Antonio Stelli reserved for the press and a limited number of guests. The second is scheduled for June 22 at the Lo Scoglietto restaurant in Rosignano Solvay (Li) , one of the most popular restaurants on the coast and with one of the most interesting wine lists in Tuscany, where only fish dishes will accompany the Morellinos of the Heart.

Morellino di Scansano DOCG

Morellino di Scansano, which became a DOCG wine starting from the 2007 harvest, is produced throughout the Municipality of Scansano and part of the Municipalities of Campagnatico, Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Roccalbegna and Semproniano. The claimed hectares of vineyards are approximately 1500, of which 35% are certified organic. To be regulated, it can contain a minimum of 85% of Sangiovese grapes and a maximum of 15% of other grapes of black berried vines permitted in the Tuscany Region. The Consorzio Tutela Morellino di Scansano currently has 220 members.
