A total of 18 Umbrian wines have been awarded the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri 2027 , the highest recognition awarded by the Guida Vini d'Italia, during the official awards ceremony scheduled for October 25th at the La Nuvola Auditorium in Rome. This result confirms the consistent quality of the region's production and, above all, paints a picture of an increasingly diverse wine region in Umbria: alongside the great reds of Montefalco, there are also white wines with structure and longevity, revived native grape varieties, and interpretations capable of expressing the diversity of the different production areas.
Umbria Top also contributes to understanding and enhancing this heritage through tasting, selection, and technical discussions. The cooperative, which currently comprises 120 members, including producers and consortium associations, and represents over 90% of the region's wine production, combines its promotion on national and international markets with activities dedicated to understanding and evaluating Umbrian wines, bringing together the region's diverse production expressions.
" The Tre Bicchieri are first and foremost the result of the daily work of the companies and their producers ," comments Massimo Sepiacci , president of Umbria Top, " but they also represent confirmation of the importance of a collective effort to understand and promote Umbrian wine. The technical tasting allows us to compare different styles, grape varieties, and territories and provides a more complete understanding of our production ."
The 18 awards assigned for the 2027 edition concern a particularly wide range of denominations and typologies: from Sagrantino di Montefalco to Montefalco Rosso, from Trebbiano Spoletino to Orvieto Classico Superiore, up to Gamay del Trasimeno, Ciliegiolo di Narni, Grechetto and Torgiano Rosso.
This picture coincides with the interpretation proposed by Gambero Rosso itself, according to which Umbrian viticulture is progressively expanding its expressive geography. Montefalco maintains a central role, but alongside Sagrantino, Trebbiano Spoletino is growing in presence, Gamay del Trasimeno and Ciliegiolo di Narni are gaining ground, while Orvieto is experiencing a new phase in the valorization of its white wines.
For Umbria Top, the recognition of the 18 wines is also an opportunity to reaffirm the cooperative's role as a tool for collectively understanding and promoting Umbrian wine. This role extends through trade fairs and activities on international markets, but also through the creation of tasting opportunities that showcase the sector in all its complexity, connecting producers, sommeliers, professionals, and the specialized press.
Umbria Top's initiatives are part of the promotional activities for certified Umbrian products promoted by the Umbria Top Wines Cooperative as part of the CSR Umbria 2023-2027 measure – intervention SRG10 “Promotion of quality products”
