Italian wines Veneto

In the Veneto region there are two milestones of Italian oenology: Valpolicella and Soave. You can not leave out the Bardolino area, nor the one of Gambellara, that have many points of contact with the former with their grape varieties and their winemaking processes, but are very different from the economic point of view. How Amarone arose it is unknown, probably it was a mistake, as many other wonders of the world.

Without any doubt the most ancient type is Recioto, to say the sweet wine obtained from the withering of the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. Probably in a year when Recioto had not the sugar strength to block the fermentation and yeasts able to act at very high gradations developed, ending then the transformation of sugars in alcool.

The volcanic soil of San Bonifacio and Gambellara is perfect for the production of Soave, a white wine capable of aging also for several decades and produced even in the Recioto variety.

Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are the capitals of Prosecco, one of the most commercially important wines and in growth in Italy. The pleasantness and simplicity of drinking foster its consumption without weight, and interesting are also the "bottomed" types, with a second fermentation in the bottle on the yeasts of the second fermentation.

Interesting and to discover are also the smaller areas of the Euganean Hills, Breganze and the inter-regional area Lison –Pramaggiore, shared with the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

The first signs of vine growing in the region date back to the era of stilts, in the second millennium BC. More certain testimonies date from the seventh to the fifth century BC, when the Etruscans began to deal firmly with wine production. With the conquest of the Romans, viticulture experienced an enormous input, also because the newcomers early became aware of the areaÂ’s potential. During the Middle Ages vine cultivation was widespread and reached its climax with the Republic of Venice.

With the advent of parasitic diseases, Veneto did not let itself be restrained by the serious recession of the industry: the School of Enology in Conegliano (1876) and the Experimental Station of Viticulture and Enology (1923) were founded. Thanks to these two key institutions, the Veneto region spent less time than other regions to recover after the crisis. Parallel to all these economic sectors, towards the mid-fifties, enology was regenerated in a definitive manner, and international grape varieties began to be grown, without neglecting those natives. With the decades, later, people began to understand why to the quantity of wine produced was also necessary to combine the pursuit of quality and, since the early nineties, the Veneto region is has been standing out more and more as a fundamental wine reality, both in Italy and abroad.
