La Monacesca farm is located in the municipality of Matelica, in Contrada Monacesca, about 4 km from the town, along the road that leads to Fabriano. Its registered office is in Civitanova Marche and its operational headquarters with warehouse and bottling plant is in the municipality of Potenza Picena, always within the province of Macerata.
The area where we are located owes its name to the settlement, around the year 900 AD, of a small group of Benedictine monks of the order of Farfa who, fleeing from northern Italy due to the Lombards’ persecution, decided to settle in this hermitage and built a small church and a convent (now fully restored and part of the corporate village): this beautiful land, then, took over time the name of Monacesca, chosen starting from 1966 as corporate brand, when Casimiro Cifola purchased farmhouses and began to plant the first vineyards and to build a winery for vinification. The earliest production of Verdicchio di Matelica with our brand goes back to 1973, the starting point of an amazing adventure, where since 1982 Casimiro is helped by his son Aldo, the current head of the company, whose support is crucial to further increase the efforts to improve technically any qualitative aspect that allows to enhance the best features of our fantastic main vine.
Borgo Paglianetto S.a.s. agricultural company, included in the production area of Verdicchio DOC di Matelica, wants to represent a reality where quality is its crucial element.
In effect, the recent choice to pass from a conventional agriculture to the organic one, wants to send an important message to consumers, as organic grapes are synonym of a very challenging production.
The reduction of chemicals, the low content of sulfites, represent very important goals, while unique and very important factors like territory, climate and the work of men make quality better. We want to transmit this in every bottle of wine produced.
The winery consists of a building suitable for vinification, according to the most modern technologies, and for the storing of the wine obtained from the more or less 20 hectares of owned vineyards, while a second building hosts the offices, the laboratories and a wide sales point with tasting hall.
Azienda Agricola Bisci S.S. is located between the provinces of Macerata and Ancona, has a surface of more or less 105 hectares, entirely included in the territory of Verdicchio di Matelica DOC.
The specialized vineyard boasts an extension of about 20 hectares, of which 14 are cultivated with Verdicchio di Matelica and 6 with Sangiovese and Cabernet. It is located in middle–hill at an altitude ranging from 300 to 350 meters above sea level, on a slight slope facing South.
The cultivation of vines is bond to principles of high quality:
hilly lands with southern exposure whose vine rows extend north-south, enclosed in a narrow valley where the soil is very rich in trace elements.
This valley, scientifically classified as a “camerte syncline”, tightly enclosed between the Apennine Mountains and the Pre–Appennine ones, is characterized by the promontory of San Vicino. The Bisci winery is located among vineyards, was built in 1980 partly adapting old country houses and partly realizing appropriate and modern buildings.
Today we are committed to refurbish and renovate the vineyard and to improve the tools and methods of vinification. In the vineyards we increased the density of plants per hectare in order to lower the yield per plant, and we have developed new installations. In the winery, as well as in buying new French oak barrels and new stainless steel fermenters, we have strengthened the fermentation temperature control systems and stabilized the heat in the environments for aging and fining of wines in order to preserve the best quality. The qualitative excellence today is our primary goal and to achieve it we have entrusted to the advice of renowned winemakers and agronomists.
Collestefano is a family–run company, founded in 1998, that owns about 14 hectares of vineyards of Verdicchio di Matelica DOC, following the methods of organic agriculture. The vineyards are positioned on four slopes of the hill of the same name, at an altitude of 420 m. It produces only one label, on which all the necessary attentions to obtain a wine that contains the genuineness of the fruits and the distinguishable characteristics of the territory are concentrated.
