Ca’ dei Frati company is known since 1782, as recorded in a document that refers “to a house with wine cellar located in Lugana in the Sirmione area, called the place of fruits”.
It was 1939 when Felice Dal Cero, son of Domenico, already a winemaker in Montecchia di Crosara, near Verona, moved exactly in that house, in Lugana di Sirmione, understanding immediately the high winemaking potential of the area. After 30 years of work in the vineyards and in the winery, in 1969 his son Pietro took part in the foundation of the DOC, beginning to bottle his first label of Lugana Casa dei Frati.
Today, with his wife Santa Rosa, the cultural heritage has been handed down to their children Igino, Gian Franco and Anna Maria, who run the company with unchanged passion and determination. The mutual respect, the union of the family, defined roles and the bond with the territory on the shores of Lake Garda, represent the real point of strength of the Dal Cero family. Ca’ dei Frati treasures the past and look at the future through a journey of research and enhancing of what has been achieved in 70 years of winemaking.
The winery of Ca’ del Bosco, surrounded by the green of vineyards and woods, is a journey in the ideal oenology: stone, steel, wood, glass. The "technological heart" of the company beats with passion and precision, artfully enlightened and framed by the intense green of the park.
The architecture blends harmoniously amongst the hills of Franciacorta. Shapes and colors are inspired by the shades of the forest: a wave of gray–green is reminiscent of the hill line and the vineyard profile. Everything is engineered to follow the pace of nature and to turn the precious fruit into wines.
Freshly harvested in the appropriate boxes, and classified as they arrive according to the vineyard of origin, grapes are cooled in special cells. Only the clusters that have passed the stringent selection come to the crushing: the experience of Ca’ del Bosco has given rise to a unique technique that
allows the total wine production in the absence of oxygen and the handling of the wines without bumping. A pair of "flying" tanks allow the transfer of musts and wines by gravity, through the principle of communicating vessels. Long wineries in the ground of stone, with temperature and humidity that are constantly monitored, cradle the maturation of wines in small oak barrels. Environments in a controlled atmosphere, innovative bottling lines, corks that are checked one by one by an optical reader and equipment designed and manufactured by Ca’ del Bosco guarantee in every bottle more healthy and of long life wines.
At this point the period of aging begins: the quiet passage of time and love of vintners will do the rest.
Guido Berlucchi, a descendant of the Counts Lana de Terzi, produced Pinot del Castello with the grapes of the Castle of Borgonato’s vineyards, a white wine not very stable in the bottle.
His friend Alessandro Borghesi advised him to meet a young and dynamic oenologist: Franco Ziliani.
It was the spring of 1955. Ziliani went to the palace of Lana Berlucchi, and promised to his host to remedying the instability
of the still wine, and proposed to create a classic method in Franciacorta.
The beautiful house, the elegant person of Berlucchi and the ancient underground cellars had inspired Ziliani,
who had seen a chance to materialize his dream as a boy: to produce a wine with second fermentation in the bottle.
Berlucchi accepted the challenge and in 1961 three thousand bottles of Pinot di Franciacorta were sealed. The Franciacorta wine was created, and the feedback of the first tasters was so encouraging that, the year after, Ziliani created Max Rosé, the first classic method rosé in Italy: a dedication to the refined Max Imbert, a friend of Guido Berlucchi and a lover of the rosé bubbles.
The story of the Verdi family in Vergomberra dates back to the eighteent century, when Antonio Verdi, probably from the Duchy of Parma, settled in Oltrepo Pavese. Since then, four generations have succeeded in the care of the family lands. According to the market of that time, they produced wheat and other cereals; mulberries gave the leaves for rearing silkworms; a good number of poles were dedicated to vines and, last but not least in the typical productions of Oltrepò. Already with Luigi, the third generation, the Verdi combine the care of the vineyards with the art of transforming grapes into wine and founded the first winery. A legacy that was passed down from father to son, along with the passion and love for quality.
A typically patriarchal family, as was customary then, but with the fourth generation the divisions of property began. After Luigi, Clemente succeeded, and then Alfredo, Knight of Vittorio Veneto, and Bruno, the first one to bottle and sign his bottles with his own label, in the years immediately after the war, and his son Paolo, the latest of the seven generations.
We cultivate the vineyards according to the methods of sustainable farming, to obtain that originality that only the location of the vineyard can transmit naturally to wine.
The soil receives attentions and care, to transfer balance to vineyards, especially through vegetation that grows wild in the rows. Chemical fertilizers are avoided.
In the pest management products with systemic action, herbicides, insecticides and products against botrytis are not used.
Ripe and healthy grapes, accurate selections at harvest; wines grown trusting on the fullness and the integrity that comes from their fruits; minimal or absent sulphuring and filtration; we do not omit anything to get generous, healthy, long–lived wines, that accompany well food.
The only element that announces the entrance of the ArPePe winery is a door placed in a wooden barrel. Once passed that threshold, you enter the premises wanted by Guido Pelizzatti at Buon Consiglio. Those of today are just a part of the original winery, obtained under the vineyards of Grumello. The space for fining measures 1,400 square meters and grows in height for 8 meters, lapping the roots of the terraced vines.
From the fermentation tanks, the red wines of ArPePe are soon transferred to large barrels made of Slavonian oak, chestnut and acacia. These are mainly containers of fifty hectoliters, in which the wine rests without being squeezed by wood.
Aside from the Rosso di Valtellina (which passes from an Ermenegildo Velo vitrified concrete vat dating back to the 60s to large oak barrels for six months and at least one year in the bottle!) only Fiamme Antiche and Ultimi Raggi have an aging period of only twelve to eighteen months in oak barrels. The other wines spend years of slow evolution (with times that are significantly higher than the requirements of the specifications) until bottling, strictly marked by the phases of the moon, as at the time of Arturo. Then, again, to rest, this time in bottles.
On the traditional aging of Nebbiolo, they invest accurate expectations: a progressive gain in sophistication and the enhancement of native lands with their specificity. There, you will find a mineral feature, but also the freshness of flavor notes. Sassella shows itself as imperious, dominating, as the rocks on which it lives. At the ArPePe House they do not fear pallid colors, those ruby red hues increasingly tending to garnet with the passage of time. You can trace warm sensations of stone kissed by the sun, of spices and of ripe fruit or of spirit, but also sensations of red berries and leather.
On top of the barrels, vines climb up to the top of the De Piro Stronghold, dominated by the medieval De Piro Castle, reopened to the public after the restoration by the FAI.
Le Chiusure produces two wines with Garda Classico designation of origin: Chiaretto, a delicate rosé wine that has been produced for more than a century on the Brescia coast of Lake Garda, and Groppello, a red wine that takes its name from the native grape grown almost exclusively on our hills. In addition, two Benaco Bresciano IGT red wines that mature in oak, Campei and Malborghetto, whose names are derived from the local toponymy. The production is completed by the extra virgin olive oil. Campei and Malborghetto, wines suitable for aging, are bottled every year, even in a small number of magnums and double magnums packed in wooden boxes visible in the image above. They are part – along with packs of three, six and twelve bottles and wicker baskets decorated with various assortments of our products – of our proposal for corporate gifts for Christmas or other occasions.
Azienda Cadore boasts 2 centuries of history.
Its origins take us to the late nineteenth century, when the family was producing Torcolato wine with Vespaiola grapes in the Breganze area in the province of Vicenza, a wine which was later exported to the United States by the great–grandfather Francesco.
In 1954 the Cadore increase their domains moving to Pozzolengo, in the province of Brescia, near Lake Garda, where Adriano Cadore with his brothers ran the company for many years.
Since 2010, the company has been running by his niece Patrizia who, with the same passion and determination of his uncle, devoted herself to the business using the experience and the ability as qualified personnel in the industry.
Cascina Belmonte has been cultivating its vineyards according to the principles of organic farming and environmental sustainability. Even in the winery you follow special precautions, such as not using sulfur nor animal proteins, which makes the wines suitable for vegetarians, too.
