Early 70s: the undersigned, unconvinced student in Law, made the same discovery and devoted more and more to the company and less and less to the law firm, which in a beautiful May morning was abandoned without regret.
Early 90s: my wife Veronica (female intuition and foresight) "forced" me to buy another 3 and a half hectares with the result of producing, in addition to our classic wines, even Verduzzo with which we produce a Raisin wine, La Veronica, precisely!

“La Rajade” is located in the eastern piedmont area of Friuli in the Judrio valley, along the Slovenian border, almost near the first woods. This is the most northerly area of Collio, where nature dominates and dictates the pace of time.
Modern technologies and equipment brought with the modernization of 1999 allow us to work respecting and enhancing the quality of the grapes obtained in the vineyard.
Our goal is the meticulous control of the processings of fermentation and refinement both for the making of white wine and red wine.
“La Ginestra” (The Broom). A story of lands, vineyards and borders.
There is History, with its great events, glorious achievements, monuments made of bronze or marble. And then there are the stories which are made by men of flesh and blood, strong of their everyday dreams and animated by the desire to create something beautiful and good, something to share with other people. One of these stories is called “La Ginestra”, as a poem by Leopardi celebrating a tenacious flower, able to bloom where no other plant can put down roots. Over time “La Ginestra” has bloomed. Not in size, that are deliberately limited, but in view of its selected customers (or perhaps it would be better to call them friends?). After all, quality and quantity rarely manage to get along.
The choice to work in a secluded area, away from the great clamor and the lights of advertising, is the philosophy of life of “La Ginestra”.
Our company is located in San Floriano, in the heart of Collio, a hilly area with a strong winemaking vocation in the province of Gorizia. In effect, the characteristic soil, made of marl and sandstone, the temperate and dry microclimate and a total exposure to the sun make the area particularly suitable for the cultivation of the vine.
The Company was founded around 1900 by Antonio Humar and at the beginning covered an area of about 2 hectares. In the 50s the founder was succeeded by his children Marcello and Marino, which gave to the Company with a mixed address (fruit–wine, livestock) to winemaking specialization. Then, the restoration of the vineyards and the winery took place, focusing primarily on manifolds recognized by the specification of DOC Collio. In the 80s, the consolidation of the families of the two brothers, with the growth of children, the tradition continues.
The Company has been bottling since 1960 exclusively its own wines. The passionate commitment and professional seriousness of the producers are expressed in the transformation of the grapes, in the finishing and in the bottling of the wines with the help of the most modern winemaking equipment.
The careful experimentation and product innovation have led the winery to a wine production of value, which is recognized in the many awards it has won over the years.
The Company is personally following the sale and export of wines.
1870 was the year in which the Gradnik Farm started its vinegrowing activity. Gradimiro Gradnik, for all Miro Di Plessiva, had the courage to turn over these extreme lands and to plant vines. It was among the first ones in Collio to begin the trade of wine bottles. It is easy to say now, but it was almost futuristic in the sixties. Since then, the Gradnik Farm engaged on the production of quality in the best tradition of the Collio area. It is situated near Cormons, in Plessiva locality, 110 meters above sea level, on the crest of Italian Collio. The vineyards are totally exposed to the south, have gradually been renovated and replanted with fine vines. The soil is of marly–calcareous feature tending to clayey. In effect, the ploughed virgin soils peel gradually during winter and give rise to the ideal substrate for the development of vines. Now the daughter of Miro, Neda, along with her children, continues the work with wise capacity. There, a few meters from the border with Slovenia, the Gradnik family is waiting in its tavern for lovers of good wine.
Villa Russiz farm has a story of great insights and generosity, passion, commitment, tradition and sentiment. The great insight is that of the French Count Teodoro de La Tour, who, in 1869, saw in the sunny hills of Collio a great place to live along with his Austrian wife Elvine Ritter von Zahony, and especially to give new home to his passion for the cultivation of the vine and to modern winemaking techniques that, right in France, had already at that time great development.
Teodoro de La Tour took first the essence that has made great wines of Collio in the world: the extraordinary microclimate can offer the greatest benefits in the encounter between the cool winds of the Julian Alps and the sea breezes from the nearby Adriatic Sea, both sweetened by the perfectly exposed hills of Capriva del Friuli.
This gave rise to what is still the fundamental basis of Villa Russiz: new varieties more suited to the area and able to develop the quality at the highest level, a wonderful wine cellar with great vaults completely underground, a passion and an unwavering commitment to the care of details, from rows, to the winery, to the bottle.
The meticulous passion for winemaking is today more than ever alive in Villa Russiz, in the 94 hectares that make up the farm, of which 40 are devoted to vineyards, with special attention to maintain the number of plants per hectare between 4,500 and 7,000, ensuring then grapes of great concentration.
The wines of the Villa Russiz Foundation are all part of the Collio designation of controlled origin, as well as the three cru, Sauvignon de La Tour, Gräfin de La Tour and Graf de La Tour, spearheads of a production that from experience have been able to grasp the ideas for modern research of the highest quality, for a coherent development path and to great wines of international level.
Villa Russiz has been and remains a symbol of passion and feeling. The passion of Elvine Ritter, who after her husband’s death in 1894, decided to devote herself completely to the orphans and the
abandoned girls; later, with the outbreak of the World War I, the project was suspended because of the war that involved also Villa Russiz.
In 1919, the noblewoman Adele Cerruti gave back to Villa Russiz its function. In 1926 the Institute was officially recognized as a non–profit organization and after the Italiy–Austria agreement, the Foundation passed to the Italian Government, under the direction of Adele Cerruti, under the name of Regina Margherita Orphanage.
Villa Russiz, to date, is an educational center that offers different types of services for the protection of childhood and the development of the socio–relational dimension in children. It focuses on the welcoming of children aged 3 to 14 who have family problems, moved away from their household, by decree of the Juvenile Court, and entrusted to the Social Services.
From IPAB (Istituto Pubblico Assistenza e Beneficenza) after a century, it has regained the legal configuration of Foundation, in accordance with the will of the donor Elvine Ritter von Zahony and her executrix Countess Adele Cerruti.
In January 2009, the Villa Russiz Foundation was created with the same institutional aim that has been with us for over 100 years: to assist, educate and give a home with love to the less fortunate children.
Ferruccio Sgubin founded the company in 1960 in Dolegna del Collio, in the Mernico locality. With the cooperation and the support of his family, it specialized it in the cultivation of the vine. A constant goal has always supported him: to ensure the qualitative improvement of the products. To make it possible, in effect, over the years, efforts have been concentrated on business development, leading the winery to make more modern and innovative equipment, methods of work and maintenance.
The company is an oasis of joy and serenity, from which the wine itself seems to draw on, paid off. Its flavor gives pleasure to those who appreciate fine living and genuine gestures of life. From the hill, on marly soils, where most vineyards were positioned, the essence of the product is generated. The view, breath–taking and beautiful, and the crisp air, contribute to give a wise harmony to this wine and to the spirit of those who taste it. The company has been able to combine respect for the environment and a prudent economic management with the introduction of an innovative general heating system. This plant is supplied with the use of scraps of the vine and the surrounding countryside.
Cormons: over two hundred winemakers welcome you in the heart of Europe, in the extreme northeastern edge of Italy, in the Friuli of the world most valuable wine–producing areas. We invite you to learn about the Cormnos Producers’ Winery, founded in the late sixties thanks to the foresight of some vinegrowers of Cormons, who wanted to treasure secular traditions. Ezio Dalla Pozza, Aldo Moretti, Adriano Drius: enthusiast presidents who, along with the Winery Master Luigi Soini, supported by the principle that the future of vines and wine was not linked to ephemeral fashions, but to the persistent enhancement of a territory. In this way, a Winery was founded, unique in the world for the quality of its wine and its many initiatives.
Ca’ Ronesca was founded in 1972 by the will of Sergio Comunello, who wanted to reunite patiently about 100 hectares of hilly terrain, consisting of many small semi–abandoned estates, situated on the rolling hills of the Dolegna del Collio and Ipplis di Premariacco areas. Here the land is cultivated partly with the most important recognized grape varieties in the Collio DOC and the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC, partly left in the forest to maintain the important ecological and micro–climate balance. In the cellar the most modern technologies coexist with traditions and ancient practices.
During recent years the company has tried, as a strategy aimed at enhancing structures and their own natural resources, to deal and to make the best use of the available buildings with new initiatives and areas for parks and gardens. In this context, in 1981 the commercial enterprise was opened to the public with the offer of cold dishes and company’s wines, and after the end of 1990 it extended its activities to food service.
In 1988, during the construction of a new aqueduct, the pond was set and enlarged, once a place of livestock watering. The work was completed in 1992 with the opening of the two connections among the tanks with the consequent formation of a small island and the construction of a wooden bridge connection.
In 1994 the Casalotta was completed, a farm building on the edge of the corporate center for the farmhouse accommodation.
Also during 1994, it was decided, even if limited to a few ceremonies, the opening to the public of the church for weddings.
There have been, in the meantime, also the cultural events. Due to the sensitivity of the municipal administration and the passion of Prof. Marcosig, musical evenings at Villa Codelli were initiated and organized by the company. It is an event at the end of August, now in its thirteenth edition, with two concerts of classical music and an operetta that has sparked a growing consensus by the public and critics.
In 2003, the Castaldia was completed: a building that until last year was used as a warehouse, but now there are 5 double rooms plus a common room.

What Severino Lorenzon purchased in the 50s was an abandoned land on which noone would have bet something.
But Severino, together with his son Enzo, decided that that would be their land, where to devote themselves to the cultivation of the best grapes, supported by a river, Isonzo, and by the flora which along this water flow has found the perfect habitat to grow luxuriant. In 1991 a the purchase of a vineyard of American vines brought to the creation of the first 15 hectares of “I Feudi di Romans” CRU, created with the conscience and the awareness to be willing to respect this land. Today the Lorenzon company is considered one of the most beautiful vinegrowing and winemaking realities of Friuli Venezia Giulia, boasting 120 hectares of vineyards grown in the Isonzo DOC area.
The Blason farm covers an area of 45 hectares, of which 16 are planted with vineyards and high–density planting, in 4 plots of land called: Bruna, La Comugna, Corona and Freifeld. The company,
in its cultural system, seeks to follow the principles of environmental sustainablity, investing a third of its agricultural area in forest crops. Today, the company has provided us with means and great potential, but the rural roots remain, as well as the flavor of tradition, the contact with nature and the pleasure to smell the scents of the land. With its family and its collaborators, the Blason company offers its customers a quality product with respect for nature and its principles.
The Skok wine company was founded in 1968 by the brothers Giuseppe and Armando Skok. The beginning of an activity in a period of choises and realizing immediately the potentialities of the vines in the Collio area, the brothers focused and put all their energies on this one.
The objectives of the Skok family has always been the vine cultivation, the production of grapes and its transformation into wine of quality. In addition, the is the great passion, real and palpable, infused to pursue and achieve the goals set.
Claudio Fabbro, historical voice of Collio, reminds that when he worked at the analysis laboratory of the Consortium, the most diverse wine samples were taken to him. They were generic "Bianco", with their respective number in the tank, or Tocai and Pinot Bianco, very popular in the 70s. Against the tide, Giuseppe Pepi Skok anticipated of ten years the guidelines of a dozen varieties of Collio and had concentrated, since then, his attention to the cultivation of Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon. With these wines, now the most significant results have been obtained, with the two "Bicchieri Rossi" by Gambero Rosso and "Vino Slow" mention by Slow Food.
Since 1991, the sons of Giuseppe, Edi and Orietta, have been running the company and have innovated the production and winemaking techniques. The very attentive care of the vineyards, made to express their potential in the best way, and a well–established philosophy of production, made them achieve the good results of today.
In 2011, the Skok wine company entered among the companies that Slow Food collects in the Super Whites group and represent excellence in the production of white wines in Collio.
