Born from the will of the Consorzio Tutela Morellino di Scansano, the site offers visitors the opportunity to organize their stay in the area of the Denomination by proposing activities, places to visit, tasting itineraries, but also sports and excursions among the villages and countryside of the Maremma, with particular attention to sustainability.
"Both the Consortium and its production base have long felt the need to have a single place that would represent a virtual gateway to the territory of Morellino di Scansano" - says Bernardo Guicciardini Calamai , president of the Consortium. - "It is from this premise that www.visitmorellino.com was born, a project we care a lot about and that we are convinced will benefit not only producers, but also the entire tourist offer in this area, which still has so much to tell and give to all those who want to live an unforgettable experience in this corner of Tuscany " .
The main objective is to enhance the territory of origin and production of Morellino di Scansano, making the area of the denomination a tourist destination through a complete offer. To do this, the Consortium started from wine tourism and created around it a network of different subjects who work in synergy to offer complementary services. "The most important trend of contemporary tourism is that linked to food and wine. In addition to wine experts and connaisseurs, today there are more and more wine lovers who are looking for experiences to live in the environment that revolves around wine" - explains prof. Josep Ejarque , Destination Management & Marketing professional and scientific director of the Master Tourism and Hospitality Management of the Sole24Ore Business School. - "To become a wine destination it is necessary to structure a singular tourist product, starting from wine and integrating with other attractions of the territory in order to create a specific identity that includes all the phases of the wine production process in order to satisfy the different segments of the public. In this sense, the territory of the Morellino di Scansano appellation has many strengths: a good climate, unspoiled nature, the high concentration of quality agri-food productions linked to the territory, wine as a fundamental element for personality, history and the culture of the territory and the green vocation ".
Within the site, which will be enriched more and more in the coming months, it is possible to consult and book a series of tourist activities starting, of course, from visits to the cellar at the Consortium companies present in the seven municipalities of the denomination (Campagnatico, Grosseto , Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Roccalbegna, Semproniano and Scansano). It will also be possible to taste the wines through the 'wine experience' formula, or book a 'wine tour', dynamic itineraries to explore the Morellino hills and vineyards during which to deepen the distinctive characteristics of the territory and of the wine.
The itineraries to discover wine are complemented by sporting and recreational proposals: from cycle tourism, thanks to the agreement signed with BMC Switzerland , a world-leading Swiss company in the production of bicycles and e-bikes, and Saturnia bike which offers rental and bike guides in the area; to the itineraries in the Maremma Park , where it is possible to go on horseback riding and trekking; finally, relax at the renowned Terme di Saturnia , in whose area there is a golf club, which increases the sports offer. All enriched by the support of the Tuscan Wine Tourism Movement .
But not only that: in the portal there is also a section dedicated to e-commerce that allows you to buy a selection of denomination labels, register and become part of a real community , where you can create groups, publish announcements and exchange messages. .
A complete offer therefore, which allows the visitor to experience a holiday immersing himself in the DOCG territory that offers intact naturalistic scenarios, a cultural and historical heritage that dates back to the Etruscan period and a flourishing food and wine tradition. All at your fingertips thanks to visitmorellino.com. "And people will be able to do so also by contributing to the reduction of emissions - explains Alessio Durazzi , director of the Consortium -. We want to transmit, also through the new portal, the philosophy that animates our territory and its companies, increasingly looking for a concrete sustainability ".
The Morellino di Scansano area has become, in fact, one of the first "DOCG EV friendly", thanks to the project launched in 2019 "Morellino Green" : the initiative that promotes electric mobility in the area of the denomination with 12 charging stations for electric vehicles positioned within a network of local wineries, including the headquarters of the Consortium. An attention that also goes to the circular economy and energy efficiency practices that the Consortium has activated a few months ago through the partnership with Enel X , and which represents one of the first concrete cases of integrated sustainability between companies and the territory.
