The Alta Langa Premiere 2023: a "royal" edition was staged in Venaria

A truly "royal" edition, in the memorable setting of the Reggia di Venaria in Venaria Reale, Turin, the one held yesterday, Monday 8 May, of La Prima dell'Alta Langa.

Sixty producers present with more than 140 different cuvées for tasting, from the most recent vintage among those on the market, 2019, to the oldest ones such as 2006; an audience composed largely of horeca operators (90%) and journalists (10%), for a total of 2000 people accredited to the event, sold out already a few days before and with a long waiting list.

The enthusiasm linked to the “Alte Bullicine Piemontesi” is palpable - comments with satisfaction the president of the Alta Langa Consortium Mariacristina Castelletta -: both on the part of the producers, and with their wines and their passion they have been able to make guests fall in love with our denomination , both by the public, who was able to experience the very high profile of the Alta Langa DOCG in a place - the Galleria Grande of the Reggia di Venaria - where the excellence of Piedmont was highlighted to perfection”.

Great success also for the masterclasses , led by the sommelier Davide Buongiorno : 90 people, in three different appointments, followed the in-depth study dedicated to Alta Langa wines with the longest refinement, thus discovering the denomination in depth and being able to appreciate the great longevity and pleasantness of the 'High Langa.

This was the fifth edition of the great tasting of all the cuvées of the members of the Alta Langa Consortium, organized after the one in 2022 in the Italdesign Museum, the one in autumn 2019 at Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan and the very first two editions (spring 2019 and spring 2018 ) at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour.

A continuous crescendo in recent years, which describes the path of the Alta Langa DOCG. A bet that won when, in the early nineties, the first seven pioneering producers joined forces with local winemakers to create a classic method capable of representing the enological pride of Piedmont. That "gentlemen's agreement" is now bearing fruit. After years of experimentation, the DOC was obtained in 2002 and the DOCG in 2011 (retroactive to the 2008 vintage). Today, there are 378 hectares of vineyards in an area that includes 149 municipalities in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo. Over the next few years, another 220 hectares will be added to the Alta Langa vineyard and production, which reached 3 million bottles this harvest, will increase proportionately.

The technical partners of this edition of La Prima dell'Alta Langa were: Piedmont Italian Sommelier Association, Consortium for the Protection of Robiola di Roccaverano Cheese, Consortium for the Protection and Promotion of Raw Cuneo, Il Pane Caldo del Mattino, Hazelnuts from Elite, St. Bernard.
