An important initiative, through which agricultural companies, local authorities, associations, municipalities and personalities who have particularly distinguished themselves in actions and policies in favor of agriculture, the environment, territorial development, as well as in supporting educational and welfare projects related to a better knowledge of the agricultural world, the protection of the environment and the economy of rural areas, are rewarded.
On the proposal put forward by CIA - Treviso to the national management of the Confederation, one of the three special prizes foreseen for the 2024 edition was awarded to Prosecco Cycling . The candidacy was evaluated by an examining committee made up of representatives of the academic, scientific and journalistic world, who came specifically to Veneto to study and appreciate the work and results obtained by the organization of the Valdobbiadene event, whose next edition will be held on September 28, 2025 .
The value of sport promoted by Prosecco Cycling is linked to the mission of CIA - Italian Farmers for the enhancement of the rural fabric and the role that agriculture plays in the protection of the territory and in the production of great agri-food and wine excellences that tell the story of Italy in the world. The combination of sport and agricultural territory was highly appreciated by the jury, in addition to the “Grand Tour Gourmet” initiative that CIA - Treviso, Turismo Verde Treviso and Prosecco Cycling have activated for the promotion of rural hospitality and agritourism in the Marca Trevigiana.
The award was presented by the national vice president of CIA - Italian Farmers, Gianmichele Passarini , to Massimo Stefani , executive manager of Prosecco Cycling, who wanted to share the prestigious recognition with his collaborators, with CIA - Treviso and with the players who have joined the World Cycling Sustainable Events project. A protocol on the environmental sustainability of major amateur cycling events, conceived by Stefani himself, which links the Treviso event to the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in New York, the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the RBC GranFondo Whistler in Vancouver. A poker of events that every year involves over 75 thousand enthusiasts from all over the world, who become ambassadors of sustainable mobility.
Also present at the ceremony was the President of CIA - Treviso Salvatore Feletti who, together with the director Marisa Fedato , proposed the candidacy of Prosecco Cycling for the 2024 Green Flag Agriculture award.
" Many things - comments Feletti - unite us to this unique sporting event: from the valorization of the territory, the history and the economy of rural areas to the promotion of agri-food excellence and rural hospitality, to the dissemination of important messages on environmental sustainability. Prosecco Cycling was also an opportunity to bring together our members and participate in the event with the CIA - Treviso team with a significant number of participants. Telling the story of the territory of the Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene and the rural values it expresses is a priority and, thanks to partnerships like the one started with Prosecco Cycling, we have managed to find a winning communication tool in the link between agriculture and sport ".
Last September 29th, an edition of the Prosecco Cycling took place characterized by completely positive numbers: more registered participants (2,700), more foreigners (700), more nations (26, with three continents ideally at the start) and more Italian regions (18) represented at the start, more women on bicycles (20% of the total) and finally an increasingly significant induced effect for the territory (1,700 overnight stays between cyclists and companions registered in accommodation facilities).
Numbers of great importance for an event that, over the years, has been able to involve over 50 thousand enthusiasts from 35 nations, contributing significantly to the success of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene as a privileged destination for world cycling tourism.
