The Historic Cellar
The Historic Cellar of Fattoria della Talosa is a journey through time that begins in the basement of Palazzo Tarugi and Palazzo Sinatti, in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, in the heart of Montepulciano.
The galleries, niches and vaults, 60 meters below the ground, make the Cellar an evocative place, where today the large oak barrels rest for the refinement of the Vino Nobile.
An ancient place, once a refuge against bombing in the Second World War, which a meticulous restoration work, which lasted over two years and carried out in synergy with the Fine Arts, has brought to light. Today the Cellar is the ideal locus amoenus for tastings and to learn about Talosa's winemaking techniques.
Those who look up at the vaults of the winery recognize the fossil remains of shells that date back to the Pliocene, when Montepulciano was submerged by the sea, while those who venture, step by step, further down into the heart of the winery, reach the entrance of an Etruscan tomb of the sixth century. BC, perfectly preserved.
A new room will soon be open to the public, in order to make the wine tourism offer even more suggestive: the delicate restoration works, including tuff caves and fossil remains, have revealed an evocative space that Talosa will soon share with visitors.
"We want to offer wine lovers an increasingly high-profile experiential journey, which will accompany them to discover the wine of this territory and those places that have made Vino Nobile di Montepulciano an oenological reference point for our country" comments Edoardo Mottini Jacorossi.
