EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS: THE TREVIGIANA AREA OPENS THE DOORS TO ITS CULTURAL TREASURES

The Marca Trevigiana celebrates the "European Heritage Days" on Saturday, September 26th, and Sunday, September 27th, with a rich calendar of events spread across the region. From walled cities to historic villages, from Venetian villas to museums, from places of spirituality to archaeological sites: a special opportunity to discover places often little-known or normally inaccessible to the public, accompanied by those who study, preserve, and enhance them every day. The initiative, promoted at the European level and coordinated in Italy by the Ministry of Culture, this year's theme is "Protecting Heritage. Renewing, Resisting, Reinventing" and involves numerous cultural institutions throughout the province.

" Initiatives like the Heritage Days allow the Destination to position itself more distinctively in the national tourism offering: the Marca is a sought-after destination for its cultural heritage, made up of museums, collections, churches, palaces, villages, and villas that make up a highly distinctive cultural landscape. The cultural offering remains a key factor in the attraction of the Marca Trevigiana: in 2025, almost one in four tourists, among the more than 200,000 registered arrivals, indicated it as a decisive factor in choosing their destination. Being part of this national event offers the opportunity to enhance and introduce to a wider audience places that, despite being rich in charm and significance, often remain outside the most well-known circuits. Our role has been to promote local initiatives, systematizing, through communication channels, newsletters, blogs, and DMS, the proposals of the Municipalities belonging to the Foundation ," says Giulia Casagrande, president of the DMO Marca Treviso Foundation . “ It is in this ability to network, between the capital and the territories, between the public and private, that the value of a DMO is measured: transforming many local initiatives into a single destination story and consolidating the positioning of the Marca Trevigiana in cultural tourism ”

The program involves ten municipalities in the Treviso area and offers experiences that showcase the city's historical and artistic riches in all their many forms. In Treviso, museums, historic buildings, churches, and cultural institutions will open their doors with guided tours, accessible itineraries, concerts, exhibitions, and itineraries.

In the Asolo and Monte Grappa area , the history of the great Venetian residences and the personalities who have shaped these places becomes the common thread of the initiatives. In Maser, it will be possible to visit Villa Barbaro, a masterpiece designed by Andrea Palladio and frescoed by Paolo Veronese, with guided tours that will conclude with tastings of the estate's wines. In Asolo, meanwhile, the weekend will be dedicated to the traveler and writer Freya Stark, with exhibitions and insights hosted in the Civic Tower.

In the highlands of the Marca Trevigiana , the initiatives will offer a glimpse into the most fragile and precious testimonies of local memory: photographic archives at Conegliano Castle that recount the evolution of the landscape and communities, activities dedicated to young people and the opening of historic and religious buildings that house artistic testimonies of great value, such as the ancient church of Cappella Maggiore of Lombard origin, which preserves a rare Last Supper from the late 13th century.

The Montello-Piave-Sile area will focus on accessibility and innovation. In Istrana, children will be able to participate in workshops dedicated to the musical mechanisms of carillons within a museum designed to be inclusive and accessible. In Montebelluna, high school students will guide visitors through the museum collections and their stories, aided by digital tools developed specifically for the occasion.

Finally, in the Opitergino-Mottense area , archaeology and historic villas will be the focus of a packed calendar of events. In Oderzo, guests can explore the ancient Roman Forum and domus, visit the 12th-century Templar church, and discover historic homes in the Treviso area through guided tours that combine history, architecture, and food and wine traditions.

The European Heritage Days will also be one of the first events in the program of celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of the great 14th-century master Tomaso da Modena. From September 23rd to December 5th, the celebrations will enliven the city of Treviso with a rich program of cultural events. This is an opportunity to rediscover the work of the artist who left some of his most celebrated masterpieces in Treviso and to delve deeper into the heritage of medieval Treviso through tours, music, performances, and cultural outreach.

These Days thus provide an opportunity to explore the extraordinary cultural diversity of the Treviso area through a unified narrative that brings together cities, villages, museums, cultural landscapes, and local communities, highlighting a widespread heritage that is one of the distinctive elements of the region's identity.
