Most Italians (66%) opt for local tourism this summer : especially men (72%), the faithless (72%) and citizens of Southern Italy (80%), Islands (73%) and Central Italy (68%).
Even undertourism , the tendency to favor little-frequented destinations, conquers Italians with 53% of preferences : especially women (62.8%), those who are loyal to their partners (65.75%) and citizens of Northern Italy (67%) and the Islands (75%).
"As the numbers show, many opt for both undertourism and proximity : just choose a less frequented destination not too far from home" explains Alex Fantini , founder of Incontri-ExtraConiugali.com - the leading extramarital dating site in Italy - who promoted this summer 2021 travel trends survey.
Carried out in April in Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing mode on a sample of 4,000 adults (50% men and 50% women), the Incontri-ExtraConiugali.com survey offers a representative cross-section of the choices of the Italian population in the various regions.
For the definition of the sample, 3 quotas were considered, crossed within them (cross-correlated quotas): including sex, geographical area and loyalty / infidelity of the couple , closing the quota-cells when each was complete.
The results show that there are also those who opt for medium or long-haul trips, but only 34% of Italians do so . It is mainly women who have this preference (40%), while the percentage drops to 28% among men. And —then again— loyal partners (40%) and citizens of Northern Italy (57%) opt for distant destinations.
The hybrid vacation-work trip, on the other hand, concerns almost a third of men (27.25%) and few women (17.25%). Among those who betray their partner, the phenomenon of hybrid travel is even smaller (12.25%): the cheated prefer not to work on vacation and reserve "free" time to organize an escapade, preferably close to home.
If in the past people thought more about the escapade under the umbrella, according to what Incontri-ExtraConiugali.com was able to detect, this summer the city is the ideal environment to cheat for 78% of men and 64% of women. The holidays, on the other hand, will be intended primarily for the official partner, family and friends.
