The Ministry of Agriculture has expressed the four strategies to protect the competitiveness of Italian oil: to raise the production capacity, to qualify the product, to improve the structure of the chain and the communication policy

At the olive growing–olive oil production chain table in the Ministry of Agriculture they took stock of the situation of Italian olive oil production and discussed the measures to improve the competitiveness of the industry.

Minister Martina said:

«Oil is a strategic sector for Italian agri–food – the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Maurizio Martina, explained – this is why we proposed to the chain an integrated plan of action for the short and long term. We lived a complicated year and for this reason already in the coming hours we will implement with the Regions a series of actions to take effect immediately».

«To the chain we proposed four lines of action with an essential common thread that must be the improvement of the relations of the various sectors involved, along with a strong work on the aggregation of the offer. There will be much to be done also in terms of the promotion of the product and we will take advantage of the occasion of Expo also in this sense».

Here are the four lines of action, in points:

– The improvement of the structure of the chain: to achieve a higher profitability a cohesive chain is crucial, with internal relations that work. Both horizontally (offer) and vertically (contractual relations);

– A more effective communication policy: to introduce innovative elements and seize the opportunities which the Milan Expo 2015 will offer;

– Actions on the production structure to raise the production capacity of each individual company and of Italy as a whole;

– The qualification of the product to protect and promote the quality of Italian products and facilitate their positioning even in international markets.
