The new outbreaks in Calabria and Basilicata in recent weeks confirm that, despite the containment zones activated in Puglia, the bacterium has managed to reach previously uninvolved areas. However, we are encouraged by the timely response of the regional authorities and are confident that the significant resources provided by the National Olive Oil Plan can limit the spread of the pathogen and promote production recovery in the affected areas. The entire supply chain needs to protect the quality of Italian oil, but also to strengthen production in quantitative terms. Protecting the national olive oil heritage is now an absolute priority. Tullio Forcella, president of Federolio , the association representing the Italian olive oil trade, commented on the development of the latest Xylella outbreaks in Calabria and Basilicata.
