Bari has become the center of international environmentally friendly olive growing with as many as 300 oils from 14 countries for the Biol Award 2015. All award winners: Spain on top, the Italian oil has done well.
The festival dedicated to organic oil ended with the Biol International Award that rewards the best organic oils, and assigns in Puglia the most important awards in the oil industry worldwide.
The event includes an international jury, thematic meetings for producers, industry operators and consumers, the exhibition of the oils in the competition for three days has made Bari the international epicenter of the organic olive oil production.
The announcement of the winners took place today at Fortino S. Antonio of Bari, with the intervention, among others, of the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Bari Alessandro Ambrosi, the Councillor for the Environment of the Municipality of Bari Petruzzelli and his counterpart in Andria for Productive Activities Benedetto Miscioscia.
«The international jury – the coordinator of Biol Nino Paparella said – has noted that, despite oil fruit fly and climate problems have brought down the production everywhere, especially in Italy, in the end the perfect knowledge of cultivation techniques can make up for all. Leading eventually to products of the highest quality, which are common in different countries and actually break down the boundaries of excellence. This year the peak, defined as average high–quality, has been achieved by Spanish oils, as in the past by the Italian ones, or the Greek ones and so on. Among the oils of the house the constant growth of Coratina Pugliese, which now offers great fruity oils».
The winners and the about 150 oils awarded with the ExtraGold, Gold and Silver Medals, will be published in the traditional Biol Catalogue, then presented at the main international fairs, from BioFach in Nuremberg to Sana in Bologna.
The Biol Award is sponsored by IFOAM and AgroBioMediterraneo, and takes place in cooperation with the BiolItalia Association, Gal–la kermesse organized by CiBi, promoted by the Puglia Region (Policies for Rural Development Area), the Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Andria, and sponsored by the Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry and the Municipality of Bari.
