Conceived and organized by Cucina & Vini, the fourth edition of Berebianco showcases the best of Italian production.
The fourth edition of Berebianco , the event dedicated to the world of fine Italian white wines, those that enjoy long bottle aging and then become particularly inviting, will take place. On May 23rd, at the Grand Hotel Palatino in Rome, a stone's throw from the Roman Forum, wines from wineries from the country's most renowned regions, from Valle d'Aosta to Sicily, will be on display . for an unmissable event showcasing a diverse palette of identities that create a colorful picture second to none . A reality, that of age-worthy white wines, is still relatively unknown in Italy, much less abroad. Berebianco was created to give voice to this growing trend, not only to raise consumer awareness of the values involved, but also to strengthen it among professionals, from wine merchants to sommeliers to restaurateurs. " Italy has historically always given greater importance to red wines, both in terms of quality and quantity produced ," says Francesco D'Agostino , director of Cucina & Vini and creator of the event. In terms of volume, this tradition was interrupted in 2011, when white wine production surpassed red wine (total production of 40.6 million hectoliters, 20.4 million whites and 20.2 million reds - ISTAT data). The production range has then steadily increased, reaching eight and a half million hectoliters in 2024, to the detriment of red wines. Sparkling wines, which are driving the white wine market, are clearly limited, but the red wine figure also includes rosé wines. In this context, Berebianco presents itself as a showcase for white wines that compete in quality with the best expressions in the world, a competition in which Italy has always struggled to compete because it is more focused on ready-to-drink products." Berebianco showcases Italian white wines that impress a few seasons after harvest and still resonate even after many years. Giving voice to the emotional impact of each wine will be five masterclasses dedicated to great vintages , where you can experience the power of our lands and our producers. An interesting new feature of this edition of Berebianco is the introduction of a competition in which participating producers are invited to submit a white wine, chosen from the current vintage and the four previous ones. During the event, the best wines will be awarded, blind-tasted and selected by the Berebianco tasting panel. Naturally, there will be food pairings; this year, Sfornaio will be curating Berebianco's gastronomic offerings with its hot pizza, topped with the finest Italian cured meats.
