The Riva degli Etruschi Resort becomes the Casa Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi.
Riva degli Etruschi consolidates the collaboration it began with Slow Food and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo. In September, it will also be the only Tuscan hospitality facility and one of the few in Italy to participate in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2026.
A permanent home for the local Slow Food community, but also a place for meeting, learning, and discussion on biodiversity, local produce, and food culture. Riva degli Etruschi, a historic resort on the San Vincenzo coast, becomes Casa Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi , adding a new piece to the journey it has been pursuing for years with Slow Food and the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo (UNISG).
The new Casa Slow Food will be welcomed by Mariva Dune , one of the resort's spaces, which will host assemblies, conferences, meetings and training sessions, offering a permanent home to the Costa degli Etruschi Slow Food Convivium.
The creation of the Casa represents the natural development of a five-year collaboration that has linked Riva degli Etruschi to the Slow Food world and has progressively involved agriculture, catering, wine production, the protection of local varieties, and dissemination activities.
Riva degli Etruschi is a resort with over 60 years of history, nestled in 35 hectares of parkland on the San Vincenzo coast . Alongside over 400 accommodations and a kilometer of private beach, the resort also offers catering, organic farming, and wine and olive oil production. These diverse activities have been integrated into a unified project over the years, with the goal of creating an ever-closer connection between hospitality, the local area, and agricultural production.
The shared journey with Slow Food and the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo began in 2021 around some common principles: protecting biodiversity, short supply chains, supporting local producers, and spreading a more informed gastronomic culture.
This approach has led to the birth of several concrete projects over the years. Among these is Tenuta Guardamare , a 30-hectare farm owned by the resort between San Vincenzo and Baratti, where ancient grains and vegetables are grown organically for the resort's kitchens.
Riva degli Etruschi's winemaking project is developing alongside the garden, with 6 hectares of vineyards and production supported by the enological consultancy of Attilio Pagli . The goal is to continually bridge the gap between what grows in the land and what is served on the plates and in the glasses of guests.
One of the symbols of this journey is the Val di Cornia Violet Artichoke , a historic local crop officially protected by the Slow Food Community since 2022. Tenuta Guardamare in Riva degli Etruschi is one of only four estates to grow this variety, which it uses in the resort's kitchens.
The relationship with Slow Food in fact passes directly through the restaurant: Magù , the structure's restaurant and pizzeria, has become a Locale Amico Slow Food , thanks to the work carried out with the Convivium and with the local communities and the use and valorization of the farm's vegetables and raw materials from the territory.
The same philosophy underpins Vini Bagnanti , an annual event organized by Riva degli Etruschi and Teseo Geri, in which wine and food become tools to showcase territories, artisans, and producers. The food section exclusively involves entities linked to the Slow Food community.
The link with Pollenzo also directly affects wine production: the 2020, 2021 and 2023 vintages of Marittimo Bianco , one of the white wines produced by Tenuta Guardamare, have been welcomed into the Pollenzo Wine Bank , the archive dedicated to the preservation and valorization of the expressions of Italian wine production.
Over the years, Riva degli Etruschi has also been chosen to host important institutional Slow Food events, including Regional Assemblies of Slow Food Tuscany Members and the Regional presentation of the 2026 Extra Virgin Olive Oil Guide .
The creation of the Casa Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi thus provides a home and a new dimension to an already consolidated relationship, transforming Riva degli Etruschi into a place for developing activities, meetings, and opportunities for learning about food, agriculture, and the local area.
The new chapter opened with Casa Slow Food will be followed by another important event: from 24 to 27 September Riva degli Etruschi will participate in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2026 in Turin , one of the main international events dedicated to food, biodiversity and food systems.
Riva degli Etruschi will be the only accommodation facility in Tuscany and one of the few Italian accommodation facilities present at the event .
The resort will participate with its own space and will also be involved in some of the official conferences. Tenuta Guardamare's labels, Marittimo Bianco 2021, 2023, and Origine 2023, will also accompany a workshop, curated by the Banca del Vino, featuring Vieri Mantelli, sales director of Riva degli Etruschi, to explain the winemaking project.
Biodiversity will be at the heart of the event, the theme of the 2026 edition of Terra Madre, presented through the model developed in San Vincenzo, in which hospitality, organic farming, wine production, catering, and the protection of local produce are all part of a single project.
2026 will be a return to Terra Madre for Riva degli Etruschi: the resort had already participated in the 2022 edition with a stand dedicated to the theme of “ Regeneration” .
The creation of the Casa Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi and its participation in Terra Madre thus represent two stages of the same journey: the one through which Riva degli Etruschi aims to make hospitality not just a form of accommodation, but also a tool for protecting the territory, supporting its production, safeguarding its biodiversity, and spreading a food culture founded on the principles of “good, clean, and fair.”
Sandro Tucci, President of the Slow Food Etruscan Coast Convivium.
Our relationship with Riva degli Etruschi began in 2020 when the organization decided to embark on a serious and in-depth process that, through full sharing of Slow Food philosophies, had among its main objectives that of making people understand that offering organic, zero-mile products does not respond to a cold market logic, but rather to a philosophy based on passion and responsibility, as well as acting as custodians of this territory.
The collaboration with the UNISG University of Pollenzo has ensured that the level of collaboration has reached remarkable heights, thus naturally stimulating the need to ensure that the Condotta Costa degli Etruschi finally finds a stable and highly representative "home" on the coast.
Therefore, "Casa Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi" will be the official representative office where the heart of the convivium will reside, a place where the convivium committee will meet to make important decisions, to think, to reflect, to build the future of the Costa degli Etruschi community alongside the magical structure of Riva degli Etruschi.
Vieri Mantelli, Sales Director of Riva degli Etruschi.
"It's not simply about warm hospitality or offering excellent services: a true cultural revolution is underway. With Casa Slow Food in Riva degli Etruschi and the journey toward Terra Madre 2026, we are demonstrating that the quality of hospitality is no longer measured by glossy luxury, but by the ability to be custodians of the land and its biodiversity.
We have overcome an obsolete tourism model to reconnect the threads that connect the land, rural knowledge, and the table. The alliance with the University of Pollenzo was born precisely from this: to root business in an ethic of taste where every choice is an act with consequences for the entire social fabric. Because let's not forget that we live in and of the territory. Business must take on a different dimension; certain values must be embedded in the DNA of corporate organizations and be a key factor in management decisions.
The decisions we are making today in Riva degli Etruschi respond precisely to these principles: respect and restitution.
The future of tourism – and of the market in general – lies here: in the ability to preserve the identity of places and protect their biodiversity.
