On June 1, 2021, shortcrust pastry and cream for everyone throughout Italy Even for doctors and nurses still fighting the virus

The pasticciotto is a hymn to life. Seemingly simple, but full of surprises. Rich in nuances of taste and aroma, especially if freshly baked, when its charge of goodness explodes in the mouth like a firework: and a good mood is guaranteed even when the day has not started well.

One of the most iconic symbols of Lecce and its land, an invitation to restart after having definitively overcome - hopefully - the general difficulties caused by this year and a half of pandemic. For this Agrogepaciok - the national exhibition of ice cream, pastry, chocolate and agri-food crafts - has decided to repeat this year, in collaboration with the Confartigianato Imprese Salento Confectioners Association, Fipe Confcommercio, Fiepet Confesercenti and the patronage of the Lecce Chamber of Commerce , the success of the first Pasticciotto Day, held last year to celebrate the official reopening of bars and pastry shops after two and a half months of lockdown.

In fact, Pasticciotto Day was born in June 2020 with the aim of sealing the full resumption of commercial activities in the area, but immediately established itself as an event of national resonance given that, in addition to the involvement of more than 130 local professionals, it has also attracted the interest of many Salento pastry chefs who have been living in other Italian cities for years, where they continue to promote our confectionery tradition by also focusing on the production of pasticciotto. Which, as already said, is the perfect symbol of what is appreciated all over the world in Salento: the luxury of simplicity, of a tradition that is never immobile but that looks to the future, of a sincere and cordial welcome that puts the accent on the substance of things, of a "slow" lifestyle and still very much tied to nature.

Many Salento pastry shops have decided with great enthusiasm to join the initiative, following the only rule foreseen for participation: offering their customers the delicious Salento dessert at the symbolic cost of 60 cents. So also this year the celebration of Pasticciotto Day, scheduled for next 1 June , will be a way to encourage the many small artisan businesses, which have always been the beating heart of the Salento economy, which unfortunately this year too find themselves having to to deal with months and months of forced inactivity. And to give a smile for at least one day to those who, due to the pandemic emergency, unfortunately find themselves in situations of particular economic difficulties.

Furthermore, every activity that will join the Pasticciotto Day 2021 will be the protagonist of a real widespread fair, entirely dedicated to the promotion of the pasticciotto, the preparation of which will become the main theme of a series of digital events to be held on the social platforms dedicated to event.

Pasticciotto Day will also become an annual fixed appointment to celebrate the rebirth after the narrowness of the pandemic, "and to teach even the little ones", explains Carmine Notaro , patron of the "Eventi Marketing & Communication" agency, which promotes initiative, "how important it is to fully enjoy the little simple things in life and give the right weight to everything that is part of our daily life".

But not only. As already happened in the first edition, one of the highlights of the initiative will be dedicated to guaranteeing a moment of sweetness even the heroes in white coats who throughout Italy have fought and still fight the battle against the virus every day: many, in fact, the adhesions to Pasticciotto Day thanks to which also this year it will be possible to reserve a supply of pasticciotti to the operators of the hospitals of Lecce, Brindisi, Galatina, Scorrano, Tricase, Casarano, Copertino, Gallipoli, Milan (San Raffaele and San Paolo), Rome (Spallanzani), Naples (Cotugno) and Turin (OGR). Pasticciotto Day, in short, as an annual "day of remembrance" to celebrate the restart and remember a period that must teach us to appreciate things that seem obvious, but are not: how to savor the inimitable taste of a Salento pasticciotto.
