The art of tasting, between science and philosophy

At the seat of Palazzo Chigi, high–level speakers and researchers are meeting to discuss the theme "Objectives of the evaluation of Wines", a topic of importance to the Wine tasters&rsuqo; world.

To understand the factors leading to the choice of a wine, how the approach to consumption evolves, how the perception of taste intervenes in the evaluation, are in effect the basis for those echoes of the art of tasting.

These key issues for the ONAV tasters will be therefore the subject of the first Scientific Congress organized under the chairmanship of Vito Intini: "The attention to the science world and its training connection is the real hallmark of our cultural and educational policy – Intini, national Chairman, explains – the technological knowledge of a professional tasting should effectivley result in continuing education. And for the figure of the ONAV taster it is important to understand also the historical, philosophical and psychological implications intervening at a choice not trivial as the evaluation of a glass of wine".

"The goal of the Congress
– prof. Vincenzo Gerbi, Chairman of the Scientific Committee ONAV, continues – is to examine the approach to tasting to rediscover its true motivations, making tasters reflect on the potential of their role. The purpose of an ONAV taster, in effect, remains that of being a "means" of proper communication in wine, tying the reality with what is told about wine".

At the round table will intervene: Vito Intini, national Chairman ONAV, Daniele Cernilli, journalist, Osvaldo Failla, University of Milan, Vincenzo Gerbi, University of Turin, Luigi Moio, University of Naples Federico II, and Francesco Iacono, winemaker.

The Scientific Congress ONAV fits into the Day of the Taster, a moment of meeting, comparison and growth that the Association dedicated to all ONAV members. On Sunday 15th November 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Palazzo Chigi, effectively, the guided tastings of prestigious wines of the province of Siena by Alessandra Ruggi, Vito Intini and Daniele Cernilli will take place.

O.N.A.V. was founded in Asti in 1951 at the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of Asti to the need, felt even then, to make available a reliable body of Tasters, specifically prepared and tested, able to perform this delicate and demanding function. Tasters are required a combination of natural skills, specific technical knowledge and training, which must be used when you want to get an objective opinion, significant and comprehensive on the quality of a wine.
