Milk in schools, proper nutrition from an early age

The Verona Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Monte Veronese Consortium, organizes an information campaign in four primary schools in the city, involving 425 children

Promote the benefits of a correct diet among children , encouraging them to consume milk as part of their daily diet, then keeping it used for life. With these objectives, the program funded by the European Union Milk in Schools was born , carried out annually by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, in collaboration with Unioncamere, some Italian Chambers of Commerce and CREA - Council for research in agriculture and analysis of the agrarian economy. In the city of Verona, Monte Veronese DOP cheese will be the protagonist of the lessons, during the month of May, in primary schools adhering to the accompanying educational measure "my territory": Antonio Provolo School, Bassona - Mariano Vilio School, Dall'Oca School Bianca, Leonardi School. In total 425 children will be involved. During these meetings the links between dairy products and the territory will be told, but above all, through engaging activities, the tasting of a product of excellence will be offered and any curiosity about the origin and production methods will be satisfied. Milk in Schools is a food education campaign on the consumption of milk and dairy products aimed at children aged between 6 and 11 who attend primary schools. “We make aware consumers grow - says the President of the Verona Chamber of Commerce, Giuseppe Riello - this too, as the promotion of local products is one of the functions of the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is first of all the interlocutor of companies operating in the province of Verona, but it is also an institution at the service of citizens / consumers, active alongside local authorities for the economic, social and cultural development of the territory ". The educational activities are coordinated and organized with the collaboration of the Consortium for the protection of Monte Veronese PDO cheese, which relies on the participation of Lorenzo Maggioni, an expert in didactics in agriculture, for this initiative, who will illustrate to the students all the characteristics of this mountain cheese. Veronese and will guide them to the tasting of Monte Veronese whole milk, the freshest version. “In our promotion program - explains Alfonso Albi , President of the Monte Veronese DOP Consortium - we have always given importance to educational activities for young and old. We usually organize them during events or at schools. We believe it is important to promote milk and its derivatives, because they provide a precious supply of nutrients, the main source of calcium in the Italian diet ".
