FederBio: organic and local food production models take center stage at SANA Food

  • 29/01/2026

Promote the role of organic farming in the agri-food landscape as a cornerstone of a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable system.

With these premises, FederBio renews its long-standing collaboration with BolognaFiere and its synergy with Slow Food Italia for the 2026 edition of SANA Food, the B2B trade fair dedicated to organic, healthy, and responsible food for the HoReCa and specialized retail channels.

The event hosts Rivoluzione Bio , the General Assembly of the Organic Industry, organized in collaboration with FederBio. This event brings together institutions, starting with MASAF, businesses, operators, and experts to analyze the sector's strategic role. During Rivoluzione Bio, data from the SANA Observatory will be presented, focusing on the domestic market, exports, and the HoReCa channel, and policies and strategies aimed at supporting the future of the Italian organic industry will be shared.

SANA Food also represents an important opportunity to relaunch the alliance between FederBio, Legambiente, and Slow Food, with the aim of encouraging the agroecological transition of agricultural and food systems.

"The new SANA Food format responds to the needs of healthy and sustainable nutrition, even in the professional sector, exploring themes of strong social and environmental importance and promoting local food production models that focus on the benefits of organic farming and the principles of good, clean, and fair," says Maria Grazia Mammuccini , President of FederBio. " The event promotes an agri-food model that protects biodiversity, soil fertility, and ecosystems, generating benefits for farmers and the entire community. Furthermore, SANA Food is held concurrently with the Slow Wine Fair, and together they represent a concrete opportunity for small and medium-sized organic businesses, increasingly present in the out-of-home consumption channel as well. These businesses are custodians of local traditions and identities, which are essential for the regeneration of rural and inland areas, where they create vital economies and social networks ."

FederBio will be present at SANA Food with an institutional space (Hall 18, Stand C/1) dedicated to organics and the agroecological transition. The Federation thus renews its commitment, together with its long-standing partners, to strengthening a sector that sees Italy among the European leaders, with over 2.5 million hectares cultivated without synthetic chemicals, equal to more than 20% of the national UAA, the highest in Europe, and a network of 97,160 organic operators, 89% of which are farms.

"Our country plays a leading role in the agroecological transition, and the Italian organic brand can further consolidate this leadership. Now we must accelerate; we need investments in innovation, research, and training to strengthen the distinctiveness of organic products and transfer sustainable solutions to the entire agricultural sector," Mammuccini continues. " It's not enough to focus solely on production; we must simultaneously work to encourage ethical and responsible consumption. Initiatives are needed along the entire supply chain to make organic products increasingly accessible in public and private catering and away-from-home dining. In this context, opportunities for businesses, operators, institutions, and experts to meet and discuss ideas like Rivoluzione Bio and SANA Food are crucial ."
