Winemaking tradition With the purchase of the land in the area of the Castle of Buttrio, a careful restoration work began. From the vineyards to the land, from the castle to the cottages, everything required support. Clod by clod, stone by stone, the project took shape. And from the 25 hectares, of which 13 of vineyards, the initial nucleus expanded. Alessandra Felluga, fifth generation winemaker, was immediately at the side of her father Marco when in 1994 she bought the property of Buttrio. It seemed like a gamble: aiming, in the Friuli of white wines, to produce excellent reds. Alessandra understands, sharing the paternal idea, the intrinsic potential of the territory of Buttrio and assumes its autonomous management in 2007. Today that far-sightedness is recognized in the results obtained from the 26 hectares of vineyards. At the origins of history, the Pampinutta hill Looking back through the chronicles of the centuries, we discover that the land chosen by Alessandra Felluga for her wine world boasts a long memory of winemaking. This is demonstrated by the name of the hill where the grapes of the Castello di Buttrio wines grow: Pampinutta, a clear reference to the leaves of the vines. The parish register of the Church of Santa Maria di Buttrio holds the news that as early as 1429 Federico Signore di Buttrio was giving away "conzi" of Cividino wine. And he specifies that the Cividino white wine was "very aromatic with a taste of rosolio and carnations" and that in the same period "Ribolla d'Istria, Pinella, Clareda, Turbiano, Malvasia, Moscatello" were produced. In the 17th century "refosco, picolito, tazzelenghe, bevert, prosecco, negrus, fumat, corvin, cordovado, ribolla nera, dulciolo, berzamino, ribolla giallo and verde" were added. The Castle of Buttrio today: cellar, charming hotel, inn The beauty of the landscape, the fertility of the renovated vineyards, the tenacity of the historic vineyards, the peace absorbed in every fiber as the seasons pass, the history breathed in the castle complex as well as in the surrounding countryside, clearly lived in for centuries, they are a precious treasure chest. Wonderful for those who know how to appreciate it. Hence the idea of sharing the world of wine with tastings in the cellar, lunches and dinners in the inn and stays in the setting of the historic residence transformed into a charming hotel, also perfect as a location for weddings and events.
