The Malibran Farm was founded about 60 years ago in Susegana, a small town in the Treviso area nestled in the hills that extend from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene, at a short distance from the town of Treviso and 70 km from Venice. It is located in the historic area of Prosecco, in the municipalities that originally grew this grapes and helped to make it a worldwide known excellence, that today is the proud holder of the DOCG denomination.
The past of a company tells its story and determines its present. For the Malibran Farm the story is the one of Winemakers. Firstly, grandfather Gregorio, philosopher of the land, to which the Extra Dry Gorio was dedicated, then dad Girolamo called Momi, pure passion for Prosecco, and finally Maurizio, sparkling wine producer by nature. The company produces about 80,000 bottles of Conegliano–Valdobbiadene DOCG from grapes of 7 hectares of vineyards that surround the winery, being directly responsible for each step of production, from cultivation to harvest, to vinification, leading to the sparkling wine–making of all types of Valdobbiadene DOCG followed personally by the owner.
During the harvest, grapes are hand–picked, placed in small containers and brought gently to the cellar. They work with methods that respect as much as possible grapes and wine. After finishing the vinification, the bases to be destined to different types of products are chosen, and then placed in
an autoclave for the second fermentation, or taking of foam. This method is called “Italian” or “Charmat”, and a visit to the winery is the best way to know and understand it. The winery is located in an ancient village of peasant houses, recently renovated, and has a tasting room located in the old barn that can accommodate up to 50 people. The company is completely family–run, and this has allowed us to keep the traditions of the area alive, which can be traced clearly in the classic Col Fondo Sottoriva, and to care about quality without being carried away by the laws of the great numbers. Respect of the land, love for the vineyards and passion for work, all included in a simple glass.
