Pierluigi Tolaini, after a career as an entrepreneur in Canada, went back to Italy in 1998, to buy lands suitable for viticulture on a large scale. He chose the properties of Montebello and San Giovanni near Castelnuovo Berardenga, for an extension of 108 hectares of land among vineyards, olive groves and woods.
The intention was that to reorganize completely the state of the existing vineyards, farming systems and related structures. In 1999, the renovation of the estates of Montebello and San Giovanni began, also realizing offices, wine cellars and housing for workers. In 2000, the most important work of this project started: the construction from scratch of the barrel cellar.
