To produce intense wines, as the soul and scents of Maremma, to rediscover the local history and to enhance the strength of the territory. These were the objectives that drove Gianni Zonin to create, in a land with an unmistakable identity as Maremma, Rocca di Montemassi Estate.

The estate is situated in the locality of Pian dei Bichi, under the historical fortress of Montemassi, in the municipality of Roccastrada (Grosseto), right in the center of the DOC Monteregio of Massa Marittima.
In this charming corner of Tuscany, in the Mediterranean scrub lapped by the sea and on metal–bearing hills, which saw the Etruscan civilization, on gentle slopes covered with vineyards and olive groves, the property extends over 430 hectares, of which 160 are vineyards.

Five years of work were necessary in order to recover the old business core, the manor house and other farm buildings that now house the winery, the offices and the Museum of Rural Civilisation, where over three thousand ancient instruments relating to the life in the countryside between the the sixteenth and the early nineteenth century are collected.

«I was struck by the intensity of light, the scents of this land, by the landscape nestled in mighty hills. I felt it was a terroir of very high vocation for growing grapes, already known in the fourth century BC, and I decided to come here to produce excellent wines that express all the strength and charm of Maremma», Gianni Zonin tells.

In this enchanting land, today considered a reservoir of absolute quality and a new frontier of Italian viticulture, Sangiovese, Vermentino, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Syrah are grown with absolute respect for the environment of Tuscany and Maremma.

The structure of the estate in itself – surrounded by pine trees, cork oaks, vineyards and olive trees, which reflect on the small natural lake inhabited also by swans – is part of this project of total integration with nature.
