Via Spessa 1
Capriva del Friuli (Gorizia)
Italy
The Castle of Spessa stands, elegant, in the heart of the Gorizia Collio area. Its origins date back to the thirteenth century. For centuries the castle was the residence of the lords of the Friulian nobility. In effect, from the sixteenth century, illustrious families owned Spessa: the Dorimbergo first, then the Rassauer and the Della Torre Valsassina, even boasting a descent from Charlemagne, owned it for more than 300 years. It was the then Count Luigi Torriani to welcome, in 1773, in Spessa, Giacomo Casanova, the famous adventurer and writer.

Over the centuries, eminent personalities have stayed here, such as the famous Mozart’s librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, and Emanuele Filiberto d’Aosta. The atmosphere that still surrounds the manor evokes the splendor of that time: the nobility, the arts, the prestige and also the human stories of famous people who have enjoyed in the past centuries its hospitality.

In 1987 the Castle of Spessa, together with the vineyards that surround it, were bought by the Pali family, who gave it new life and made of it the heart of the Castello di Spessa Resort hotellerie complex, with a Golf Course of 18 holes, Hosteria del Castello, Winery, Casanova Wine Store, Hotel and La Tavernetta gourmand Restaurant.

Pali Wines is a brand that contains three major labels: the wines of Castello di Spessa Doc Collio, the wines of Boatina DOC Isonzo and the brandies distilled from the marc of Spessa grapes by De Mezzo Distilleries.
