Località Selvapiana
50068 Rufina (Firenze)
Italy
Selvapiana is a typical Tuscan farm consisting of the main house, the basement and other plants – now disused – like the mill, the barns and the carpenter’s workshop.

In the Middle Ages the business center of the estate was made up of two towers, of different sizes, which were maybe used to sighting or parts of a small castle. The two towers are now enclosed in structures added in later periods (particularly during the Renaissance).

For a long time Selvapiana was the holiday resort of Florentine bishops. It later belonged to some families of wealthy Florentine merchants, including the Scalandroni. Purchased in 1827 by Michele Giuntini, Selvapiana now covers 240 hectares, of which 45 are vineyards and 31 olive groves. Five generations of Giuntini have succeeded here.

Particularly commendable was the work of Francesco Giuntini Antinori, the current owner, who with great strength and intelligence committed himself to return to Chianti Rufina the prestige that the area had enjoyed since 1716, the year of the famous Announcement by Cosimo III de’ Medici, in which the Pomino designation was considered among the most important in Tuscany.
