The best wineries in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
The Anna Berra farm has an area of 4.5 hectares and is situated in Ramandolo, a small village in the Municipality of Nimis, in the province of Udine, on the Eastern Hills of Friuli.
Ramandolo has been awarded the first D.O.C.G. in Friuli Venezia Giulia for its renowned wine after which it is named.
The vineyards are cultivated according to the best agronomic techniques with very limited methods of breeding such as the Guyot and spurred cordon, methods whose productions range from 1.8 to 2.3 kg/log, depending on the variety.
The grape varieties grown are: Friulian Verduzzo, for the production of Ramandolo, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and finally, a small amount of Picolit.
The company differentiates its production in two lines:
– a traditional line, presented with the Vini di Casa Berra brand, with which only red wines vinified in stainless steel vats are marketed;
– a line branded Selezione Anna Berra, whose label is characterized by the original signature of Anna Berra.
The wines in this line are made from reserves vinified and aged in French oak barrels (barriques) for long periods (over 18 months).
They are currently producing about 25,000 bottles a year with the expectation to increase production in the near future through the acquisition of new land but keeping the same quality sought and wanted up to now.
The Bernardis company is located on the slopes of Mount Bernadia, that protects our vineyards from the north winds allowing an optimal ripeness of the grapes. The vineyards of the Bernardis company were planted by great–grandfather Valentino in the early years of the past century. With a happy intuition, he chose one of the most suited sites to the production of Ramandolo: the slopes of Mount Bernadia.
Planting vineyards in those steep slopes was not an easy nor quick work. With respect to the work done, still today all the works in the vineyard are carried out entirely by hand, taking care with love of each vine.
Grandfather Primo continued to cultivate the vineyards in the postwar period with many sacrifices, at the same time working as a bricklayer.
And therefore, for three generations the company has been producing that wonderful nectar that can boast the birthright of the D.O.C.G. in Friuli.
Azienda Ronco del Gnemiz does not love fashions nor trends and has worked for years to refine the results obtained, sometimes in captivity, with tenacity and stubbornness. At Azienda Ronco del Gnemiz they are like their wines: austere but true.
The winery is based on a rich farming tradition and was founded at the beginning of the 19th century at Brazzano near Cormòns in the province of Gorizia by Luigi Zorzon, the grandfather of the present owner Giorgio DEGANIS. The familiy-run winery is situated among green hills in the heart of the Collio which offer a unique panorama, in close proximity to many historic towns including Gorizia, Grado, Trieste, Aquileia, Udine and Cividale. We currently manufacture prestigious white and red wines respecting both tradition and nature. Giorgio Deganis together with his Austrian girlfriend leads the company. We are delighted to welcome guests in our winery for tasting wines and regional products. In addition we offer two attractive rooms and one apartment for spending some days in the beauty of the COLLIO area.
Roncal is a small estate, only 20 hectares of absolute quality. It is located in the heart of the eastern hills of Friuli, just 3 km from the Longobardic town of Cividale del Friuli, UNESCO world heritage.
It was founded from a project by Roberto Zorzettig, knowledgeable vinegrower and oenologist, who in 1986 decided to start a model company combining respect for the land, the preservation of tradition and the renewal of winemaking techniques.
Today, his wife Martina carries out his company with great dedication and enthusiasm, who has made of quality and excellence her motto.
The company’s name, Il Roncal, in Friulian language means "farmstead", located in the hills cultivated with terraces and, in effect, the "ronchi" dominate this picturesque landscape.
The "ronchi" of the vineyards surrounding the Montebello hill are favored by an excellent exposure and a soil of sandstone and marl, ideal for the cultivation of the vine.
At Roncal they harvest late, to catch the grapes in their most generous maturity. Wine is made according to traditional methods, at a controlled temperature in the cellars of the company.
A basement is dedicated to aging and fining of wine in wood barrels: barriques, tonneaux and barrels of 25 hl, with control of temperature and humidity and a ventilated place for the drying of grapes. Along with the shiny and cold steel tanks, scented oak barrels find a place, where wine matures and the flavors complement each other.
In contrast to this, so strong and at the same time pleasant, the whole philosophy that guides the estate is enclosed, where we experience innovations to improve what already exists.
The winery has been recently renovated and expanded, and is home to a new space devoted to the sale of the company’s wines. One of the two towers of the building is dedicated to moments of tasting with a striking view of the surrounding vineyards and on the ancient mansion, carefully restored, now used as a farmhouse inn.
The Simon Komjanc company is situated in the charming hills of San Floriano del Collio in Valerisce locality, in the DOC Collio renowned for the production of fine wines. The company has an area of 20 hectares, of which 11 hectares of vineyards.
It vinifies an average of 600 hl of wine, that sells mainly in Italy. The grapes come exclusively from vineyards owned and their vinification takes place in accordance to the modern technology, while respecting the traditional system that has always been used in the Collio. As an additional guarantee and in protection of quality, the product is bottled and marketed by the producing company.
The Polje farm covers a territory of more than 12 hectares of vineyards, some of them very old, situated on the sunny slopes of a hill and facing South–east.
The wines that express in the best way the characteristics typical of the "polje", to say the sinkholes that mark the lands of the Collio, in the surrounding area of Cormons, are Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano), Ribolla and Sauvignon, which are also the ones that best enhance the grapes of this prestigious wine area, one of the most interesting in the world.
From other red grape vineyards of the eastern hills of Friuli, Refosco Dal Peduncolo Rosso is produced, a structured and elegant red wine, fruit of the great tradition of Friuli.
It was 1968 when Mario Arzenton, realizing an old dream, gave birth to a modern farm with the transformation into vineyard of a wooded area in the hills of Bosco Romagno in Spessa di Cividale del Friuli, one of the most favorable to viticulture places of the DOC of the Eastern Hills of Friuli.
The company, 14 hectares of which 10 are devoted to vineyards, offers with its land consisting of layers of marl and sandstone, its exposure and its microclimate an optimal habitat for the vines. The terraced hills, called "ronchi", give limited productions. Grapes are exclusively harvested by hand in baskets and are transferred to and processed in the wine cellar in the shortest possible time. Personally taking care of every stage of production, to bottling, wines are of guaranteed quality.
Mario Arzenton has became a producer of white and red wines, with excellent structure and delicate perfumes that can accompany any kind of dish, from appetizers to desserts.
Azienda Vinicola Ronchi San Giuseppe is a winery that produces high-quality wines using both traditional and innovative methods. Their vineyards are carefully tended to ensure the best quality grapes, and they specialize in producing unique and distinct blends. The winery is dedicated to preserving the heritage of winemaking while also embracing modern techniques to continually improve their products. Making wine is not how to make nails or light bulbs, where to guarantee the product it is enough to ensure the accuracy of the program and the machine.
Making wine brings into play an almost innumerable amount of factors, each of which determines the nature and quality of the result: heaven and earth, wet and dry, fog and snow, and then, of course, the most in–depth technical knowledge; in short, to make a good wine we need a knowledge continuously allied to a kind of human wisdom that can be reached with experiences, mistakes, changes and insights that belong not so much to a job, but to a profession continually keen to improve herself.
This is what the Bergamo family has been seeking to implement in its fifty years of experience in wine. In this regard Ca’ Selva has a main road, clearly identified in its motto:

The Latin phrase, fully translated, means that nature is necessarily mistress of all human art, and the word ars, artis, in Latin, means a technique which includes, in its making, including insights and inventions, elements indispensable for any result that is not mere reproduction of a model.
Thus, the first choice of the company, which since was founded, in the wide grave under the mountains of Friuli, practices the organic cultivation of vines, in accordance with its philosophy of production; from which also the decision to accompany, in the label of its bottles, the traditional name of the grape variety with a designation of Friuli that highlights, poetically, the distinctive quality obtained thanks to the current wine making technique.

Casa Vinicola Conti Formentini is situated between the rivers Isonzo and Judrio, on the border with Slovenia.
For almost five centuries ago it has been belonging to the Friulian winemaking tradition and even more to the reality of the Collio area.

The soils are poor in nutrients but rich in trace elements, and thanks to this structure and content of mineral salts vines grow properly fed and resist better in periods of drought.
The quality of the grapes also depends on the fact that always, in the Collio area, the vineyards are small plots that are grown with love and care from their owners as if they were their own little vegetable garden.

Well structured, rich and fragrant White wines; harmonious and full–bodied Red wines: this is the result of a careful selection of grapes harvested in vineyards located 250 meters above sea level.
Azienda Agricola Jacss by Sandro and Andrea Iacuzzi began as a small family business and a mixed agricultural activity, typical of Friuli. Since 1990 to our days, with enthusiasm and commitment, we have changed its characteristics, specializing in the cultivation of the vine (more than ten hectares of vineyards) and in the vinification of grapes, producing about 50,000 bottles a year. In the management of the company, we focus onour efforts on the continuous improvement of our products, by changing the forms of cultivation of vines, (short pruning, with a few buds per fruit), producing 60/70 quintals per hectare, and modernizing the old winery.
Azienda Agricola La Bellanotte (Farra d’Isonzo). Villa Baselli, former Strassoldo, is marked on old cadastral maps such as Casa dei Ronchi, but it is known by the appellation of La Bellanotte, a place where different cultures and traditions come together and where Ms. Giuliana Guadagni, of Tuscan origin, found in Friuli a sincere land. The company’s philosophy and values in which La Bellanotte believes are developed and made recognizable in its products. The desire to improve does not experience breaks or afterthought, at La Bellanotte they work and experiment the pursuit of the best possible expression of the territory. In addition to the masterful Pinot Grigio Conte Lucio and the excellent Luna de Ronchi, the company produces Chardonnay La Mé Gnòt, Malvasia Istriana, the very tasty Armonico and a great excellent Piccolit raisin: Vento dell’Est.
The RADIKON farm is located on the high ground of Oslavia (part of the municipality of Gorizia) along the varied ridge that from the bridge on Isonzo goes to San Floriano, in the heart of Collio. The company consists of about ten hectares of vineyards located in proximity to the corporate seat and placed on steep slopes, as tiring to work as generous in quality. The soil, from the geological point of view, corresponds to the optimal conditions for viticulture of excellence.
Since 1980, the company has been conducted by Stanislao (Stanko) Radikon, his wife Suzana and son Saa, with a degree in Viticulture and Enology.
