After Puglia (2013) and Umbria (2014), Piedmont is the Italian wine Region chosen among the "10 Best Wine Travel Destinations 2015" of the "Wine Enthusiast" US magazine.
«The majesty of the Alps with their snowy peaks are the stunning backdrop of the hills covered with vineyards, and Piedmont, whose name actually means "foot of the mountain", is also a food paradise, famous for the rare white truffle. A Region full of accommodation facilities and exceptional wineries, it is a dream destination for wine lovers» Kerin O’Keefe, head of the magazine for Italy, writes in her motivations.
Piedmont belongs to the élite of worldwide wine tourism destinations and it is not surprising, given the exceptional wine productions: Barolo and Barbaresco, Barbera Dolcetto, Grignolino, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Roero, Gattinara, Ghemme, Dolcetto, Dogliani, Gavi, Timorasso and Moscato d’Asti, to name only the most famous ones.
Right Langhe Roero and Monferrato were included in 2014 among the World Heritages of Unesco as "vineyard landscape", the first case ever in the world.
Among other wine regions in the wine world to visit, in 2015, according to the magazine, there are also Finger Lakes, Orlando and Mendocino in the US, Galicia in Spain, Istria in Croatia, Okagan in Canada, the Loire Valley and the Rhône Valley in France, and Hawkes Bay in new Zealand.
